From tonight's Channel 10 debate, as reported by the Daily News' Catherine Lucey:
When the panel asked Nutter if he was concerned about the program turning into racial profiling, he said he was most concerned about the number of African Americans being killed. He also noted: “As a person who has been black for 49 years I think I know a little bit about (civil rights).”
A few moments later Fattah – who criticized the “stop and frisk” proposal throughout the night – said, “I’m sorry the councilman has to remind himself he’s an African American.”
(Josh over at FFR215, who was there, has a separate entry on the reaction to that comment -- go check it out.
And then, back to Catherine's reporting...)
Fattah also suggested Nutter had made a “racial appeal” by mentioning slain African Americans.
Brady also took some queries on crime – specifically how he was going to pay for the additional police officers he has promised in his safety plan. Brady avoided giving any specifics.
“I’m going to give them what this city needs to be safe. How much does it cost for somebody’s life? I think they’re priceless,” he said. “Whatever money it takes to keep this city safe. I’m going to find it.”
Fattah took some heat over his plans lease the airport and use the funds to support his anti-poverty programs. State Rep. Dwight Evans said that the numbers in the plan “don’t reconcile” and Nutter suggested that Fattah might want a “plan B.”
Fattah also said he’d be prepared to raise taxes to fund his anti-poverty effort.
Knox – who has painted himself as an outsider reform candidate – was asked about his endorsement of City Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell, who opposed ethics reform legislation. “I know she’s voted against it, she explained her reasons for voting against it and I accept it,” Knox said.
Knox also took a beating from Brady who accused Knox of contributing large amounts to Democratic candidates to gain political access.
“No you’re looking for good government,” said Knox, growing high-pitched. “You’re telling me any tie you give people money you’re looking for access.”
Knox then noted that Rendell had said in an interview that he would “kick butt.”
“I can kick butt and yours will be the first to go,” he said to Brady.

I was somewhat undecided before tonight, but what I do know now is that I can't support Fattah....he looked terrible tonight and I wouldn't want to see him as my mayor

Talks real tough like his associates David Fishbone, ex-con, a former lawyer with a 1995 embezzlement conviction, side kicks enforcer and muscle squad Michael Youngblood,ex-con, Jr. Black Mob,dealer/extorionist,and now the 98 Jackets see the pattern. Where's Tommy the Loan Shark.

I'm no fan of Knox (I'm voting for Nutter), but I'd be pretty pissed after Brady's non-stop attacks. Every other word out of Brady's mouth is "Knox".
Brady has no business being in this race & is only there to try split the white vote.

same for Fattah, every word out of his mouth is an attack on Nutter...he has 45 seconds to make a closing statement and uses most of that time to attack Nutter instead of saying what he would do...pathetic

I agree about Fattah's attacks on Nutter. The only difference is that I believe Fattah wants to be mayor. In my opinion, Brady isn't campaigning to be elected mayor. He's campaigning to make sure Knox isn't elected.

is this the end of fattah in the race?

I hope this is the end of Fattah but it isn't. It is sad but Philadelphia is one of the last places in the country were tactics like those he employed tonight actually have a positive effect. I am willing to bet that polls conducted after these debates show a surge for Fattah. It is sad and ridiculous that Philadelphia is still like this. People like Fattah are exactly the reason why I moved out of Philadelphia.

Fattah and Brady are both party shills. While they both would like to win, they're real purpose to keep reform out and maintain the status quo.

Brady will win this race and knox will go away like a bad fungus that has been treated

Brady is a tool. He had paid people in the audience to applaud everything he said. Then they ran back to the campaign HQ so they could post here and talk him up after his stuttering mess of a performance. What a joke.

Marsha - Did you know there was a threat to Bob Brady's life last evening before the debate.

Before anyone comes under false inventive distribution. Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Obama are supporters of Mr. Knox.

If you live on a Outpost you aren't suppose to know Andy Toy , Matt Ruben , Sharif Street and Derek Green would make fine possibilities for At-Large Council Seat Candidates.
The City is ripe for a new day and usually a new day can bring a better state of being , maturity , freshness , perspectives , natural experiences and better production units.

Hey Marsha,
Unlike Knox who has to pay people to work for him, Brady doesn't have any paid staffers. He doesn't need to, he has tons of volunteers. I know this for a fact because I'm one of many of them.

Miss Cindy Brady - I hear the vibes between Bob and Nancy the - House Speaker are in the toilet. Cindy being a paid-less volunteer you don't feel used being around Bob's goons or to witness Bob's poor process procedures and insight practices.
