    Continuing the post-election analysis

Special thanks to blog user Plokozhopsky (and special thanks to the "cut and paste" function), for using the turnout figures to map turnout by ward.

Hit "continue reading" to check it out and discuss.

How did your ward do? Apparently, mine - the 2nd - while above the overall turnout, didn't quite make it to 50%.

Is this based on the number of registered voters that the City Commissioner's office reports as registered, or the more accurate number if you purged everyone who no longer lives in the city from the count?

    Plokozhopsky:

I just took the numbers that were posted on this website, calculated the percentages based on the democratic registration and total vote, and put it in a map.

I think I recall someone asking this question before, but I don't remember if it was answered.

Unless there is an uneven distribution of the people who left the city, the relative voting rates of the wards won't change significantly, no matter which denominator you use. My concern was trying to explain the variation in voting rates across wards. Some places with very high or very low voting rates surprised me.

    Wendy:

Dan - actually the voter rolls are purged now on a regular basis -- every five years or something. They have been purged since 1999.

Also, sorry that I didn't answer a question -- was travelling to H'burg -- but if you are asking are these the City Commissioner stats, yes, they are. But again, we have had at least one purge since 1999.
