On tomorrow's editorial page. From the press release:
“When people talk about Philadelphia, they talk about a city on the verge – not of bankruptcy, but of greatness. That’s why the next few years matter so much. That’s why we endorse Michael Nutter for Mayor.”
“Nutter has the intelligence, the vision, and the experience necessary to take this city into its rightful future, and to rewrite the old “corrupt and content” story of machine politics, insider deals and pay-to-play,” according to the editorial.

He is racking up the endorsements big time. This one means more than most because a lot of blacks read the DN. I dont think the Inquirer or City Paper endorsements were big surprises or made much of a difference. Most people that read either are likely to vote for Nutter or Knox anyway. There is a possibility that he will get the endorsement of every major local paper.

I'm glad that the local papers are supporting someone that has the smarts and the common sense to do whats necessary and try to turn this city around. My vote would've gone to either Michael Nutter or Dwight Evans, but since I had to move out of Philadelphia, I can't vote on this. Just looking at all the candidates and hearing them talk about what they wanna do and how they wanna go about things, it just naturally seems like Evans and Nutter are CLEARLY the two most qualified candidates in this race. My opinion is this...Knox comes off like a complete fraud to me and I dont think he's the outsider he claims to be. Fattah's whole thing is built around fighting poverty and leasing the airport. Good ideas, but will they actually get done? If so, how will they be paid for? He doesn't provide a whole lot of details and support. Brady is part of the whole "machine" which is what's wrong with Philly politics in the first place, so I can't understand why people would wanna honestly vote for this guy. I think if anyone wants 4-8 more years of a John Street-type government in this city, they'd vote for Brady or Fattah...but if you have an ounce of common sense in your body, and you know what's been going on in this city, why would you do that?!?!? I don't get people sometimes

He left out his view on black people like me,That he thinks we should be stopped and frisked,Good luck nutter,Your going to lose ,Im voting knox to make sure your not going to be mayor,And a lot of other people are too.

Nutter may have you stopped and frisked but he also wants to set up an independent review board for the police to assure against abuses. That paired with a good economic the plan for the city might just stop the violence in this city

"Stop and Frisks" have already been held constitutional by the United States Supreme Court (Terry v. OH, US v. Cortez, US v. Hensley, etc.). There are specific requirements that must be met - and only if they are not met is the stop and frisk unconstitutional. THERE IS NOTHING NEW ABOUT A STOP AND FRISK - the police already have the authority to do this! Don't make ignorant comments unless you know the facts.

Based on how the comment was worded, and the fact that it's been worded the exact same way several times on this blog and on others, I don't think there was anything ignorant about that comment. It's an idea that's being purposefully propagated by some other campaign (it would appear that it's Knox's, but who knows).

Nutter is borne of the political machine -he benefited from it and solicited services from it. He is not a reformer and that word is overused.
We need someone that understands how the city agencies work and how to fix them. The only person who can get that done is Jonathan Saidel. He has investigated these agencies for the past 16 years and the past mayors, including Ego Eddie Rendell and Blackberry Street have not implemented the changes.
With Brady as Mayor, Saidel will finally have the opportunity to cure the deficencies in the various city agencies and implement the needed changes.
With Brady, you get Lynne Abraham and Saidel!
Brady for Mayor!

Were it not for Brady's candidacy, Saidel would be running right now and wholly capable of putting his own plans in action.

Wow. Even the Daily News recognizes that Nutter is clearly the best choice.
Question: How can complain that Nutter is "born of the machine" and then go on to say Brady would be great mayor?? That makes no sense. Brady IS the machine, the same machine that has accomplished NOTHING.

Lynne Abraham only endorsed Brady because she was barely re-elected and needs the machine to survive

I do not think the machine is enamored with Nutter at all. Most of the established politicians in city government were not fans of the ethics legislation he pushed. On top of that he has been a vocal critic of Street when he was in office and since he left. The real insiders do NOT criticize other machine players even if it's Street. Remember the days when Kinney used to sound a lot like Nutter? Ever since Brady reigned him in and told him to make up with Street Kinney has followed the party line. Now THAT is being part of the machine.

If Knox was not in the race, Nutter would be the target.
If Knox wins, the current machine loses. Done, out. No more.
If Nutter wins, the current machine loses. But at least they know going forward they be able to compete with everyone else on a level playing field.
