    Joining hands for children

I just have to call more attention to the political action that will happen outside of City Hall today, when advocates for children and youth will form a human chain around City Hall to call on the next Mayor to "expand afterschool programs, support youth violence reduction programs and use systems that serve children."

"In addition, pies will be given out to the public to symbolize the need for “kids to get a fair piece of the budgetary pie.”

The rally is sponsored by Philadelphia Safe and Sound and the Philadelphia Children’s Commission. Fantastic.

Thanks for calling attention to this event. It was absolutely fantastic with over 1200 children and their chaperones linking hands around City Hall to symbolize their energy, power and the importance of children to the health and future of the city. Youth MC's Marcellus Taylor and Jose Figueroa were terrific, youth talent on stage was awesome and the free pies donated by Tasty Kake underscored the message that children need a fair slice of pie when the city determines its priorities. TOo bad all the candidates were not there, it was a powerful moment in the sun!
I was glad that 9 of my children and 3 of my grandchildren were there to share the day with me. I am sure they will remember it for a long time, right up there with the original "Stand for Children" in DC many years ago!
