I just heard a new radio ad on KYW 1060 attacking Nutter.
It brings up his eConsult contract (Nutter has since stepped down), a fund-raiser thrown by a local law firm that Nutter had aided, and other city deals.
Interestingly, the ad said it was paid for by "Philadelphia Future Phuture."
Wendy ETA: Hey, it's not Philadelphia Future, it's Philadelphia Phuture -- Johnny Doc's PAC. Which is running a very similar ad in the Inquirer today.
Dan ETA: I just wanted to chime in since I received an email requesting that it be made perfectly clear that the ads in question are in no way connected with the Philadelphia Future (with an "F") PAC.

Isn't "Philadelphia Future" a John Dougherty associated PAC? Therefore connected to Knox?
Not throwing accusations but just asking.

I have yet to see Nutter's new TV ad attacking Knox, nor can I find it on the web. Can you guys post it?

Speaking of John Dougherty, he was at the race for the cure on Sunday... wearing a CALIFORNIA ANGELS pullover.
I mean, couldn't he have the decency to support ONE of the home teams? Maybe a pink Eagles hat for the occasion? What a traitor...
By the way, the catholic literature from this past weekend has to be his doing. Good to see that Knox has chosen such fine friends.

Unless I'm wrong, Johnny Doc's PAC is "Philadelphia Phuture," not Philadelphia Future. Did they pronounce it with a "ph" in the ad?
Posted by JKFriz | May 14, 2007 9:37 AM
Yep, Johnny Doc it is...
From Friday's DN:
"Also yesterday, Frank Keel - spokesman for Local 98 of the electricians union - revealed that he had made a negative radio ad about Nutter on behalf of the union's political-action committee, Philadelphia Phuture. Keel said the group was trying to buy $15,000 worth of airtime on KYW radio."
Posted by Jared | May 14, 2007 9:51 AM
So, if Keel said that he "was going to provide informal support" down the stretch, then this is it.
How is this not "coordination"??
Where is the ethics committee?? Where is the committee of 70?
INVESTIGATE 98 NOW!!!

Nutter's new TV ad points out what all the papers are saying that Knox isn't right for this city

Quite interesting " Philadelphia Future " is led by Ed Rendell and David L. Cohen but then again Ed is the Governor he's suppose to be a leader.
If this is true. Appears Ed isn't interested in doing things with Michael or his goal observers.

I think I lost any respect I ever had for Knox's personal integrity after this last minute barrage of negative advertising.

Hey Jill - the ethics committee is already up to their eyeballs investigating brady and carol campbell. That should keep them busy for another six months or so!

Its Philadelphia Phuture. Wendy just got it wrong.

I am a bum. Do not listen to anything I say. I will be indcited any day now for being a piece of garbage. My buddy Johnny Dock is also a hot smoking piece of crap. And all the union electricians are garbage citizens that drink too much and eat too much and we should be rounded up and set on fire!

everyone has been attacking Knox from the beginning>Now he goes on the attack and people lose respect give me a break.Old boy network is about to get shut down AND I LOVE IT!VOTE FOR CHANGE!

This same group has a full page ad in the Inquirer today claiming that Nutter gave out a no bid contract to a law firm and than they gave him a $5k a head dinner. No specifics or references are provided. I had a feeling it was Johnny Doc related.

The problem is Knox's "running partners" - Blackwell and Dougherty are as corrupt if not more so part of the "machine" as Brady and Fumo. By alligning with these folks Knox has trashed all credibilty he once claimed as an "outsider".
Posted by seand | May 14, 2007 11:21 AM
All the other candidates have been airing ads and mailing literature with misleading attacks on Knox that use out-of-context newspaper quotes and include copyrighted material used without permission? Wow, I must have missed that. Thanks for pointing it out.

Dave - I remember just a few days ago the plot was to derail Tom with swift boat pitches from all of the candidates. If we are to play nice and respect playing nice in the Romper Room then Tom also has the right to speak on his behalf , the others sure didn't respect playing nice.

We are all working for nothing! Brady is going to lose. I'm going to go volunteer for Knox.

Jim - I see this place is full of forked-tongues today. Jim Philly is going to love Tom as mayor.
Change is beautiful.

The swift-boat ads didn't come from "all the candidates." Bob Brady was really the only one with connections. Knox's ads that I referred to are all about Nutter (the front-runner). Also, except for the Smukler ad that the television stations rejected, the 527 anti-Knox ads were mostly factual (even if the 527s themselves were probably unethical and possibly illegal).

How exactly is putting the most corrupt memeber of City Council to th epresidency of Council and Dougherty the head of the party - which is Knox's agenda - a "change"? Sounds exactly like meet the new boss same as the old boss (if not worse). A Knox mayoralty will leave us thinking wistfully of the "good old days" of Street I fear in terms of rampant corruption and inside deals.
Change for the worse is "change" but not what this city needs.

Were can I report Nutter volunteer's taking down Fattah for Philly sign's? This is starting to get annoying, some of us white people are not going to vote for Nutter. And, I would appreciate it if you center city Nutter supporters would leave my Fattah window signs alone, Thanks! The D.N. editorial cartoon was way out of line and way RACIST!

Dear Michael Nutter, you cannot have Stop & Frisk implemented in conjunction with a crime emergency, you will get scores of young Black at risk youth killed by the police... Hello!
Posted by Son of Anonymous | May 14, 2007 12:24 PM
There are swarms of Nutter supporters breaking into my house to take down my window signs! Help! It's a revolt! Stop and Frisk them all!
Posted by Anonymous | May 14, 2007 12:32 PM
Knox thinks Philadelphia is too stupid and racist to elect someone who doesn't embrace the likes of Blackwell and Doc. When it comes down to it, that's really what it's about. He thinks the only way to win is to sell your soul.

Brady Staffer - Taverns won't open until late tomorrow evening. My lord if one doesn't have enough money to buy a fifth or pint this evening and can't spend their fuel money they aren't suppose to give to fueling stations tomorrow May 15... what are they to do.
I say take the real object of the matter at hand like voting for Tom Knox , folk could find with a clear mind , that opting to select Tom Knox is better than falling off a bar stool vomiting and looking stupid on their knees.
Excellent decision on your part.

don't you just love the "anonymous" posts - amazing pieces of fiction.
Posted by seand | May 14, 2007 1:11 PM
Knox is acting like he is desperate. I guess this was to be expected due to his drop in the polls, but I think it just makes him seem like a career politician instead of a novice who wants change. The other question is: If Nutter is so corrupt why has Knox failed to address it in the debates or in advertising? Up until now I haven't heard Knox utter a negative word about anyone except Brady. Now suddenly, he is "exposing" Nutter's history of no-bid contracts and insider deals.

Attention, all of you Johnny Doc bashers. You don’t have a clue who John is, what he does for people, or the things that motivate him. I know, because I work for the man and have a great deal of respect for all he does. Here’s a quick snapshot of the last few days in Doc’s world: Thursday night he hosted a barbecue dinner for the physically and developmentally disabled kids of Variety Club, an organization he has helped for years. Friday night he and his wife, Ceilie, attended and were honored at the Magee Rehabilitation Center’s annual awards dinner. As a result of the serious medical issues John’s wife has faced – and all that Magee did to help Ceilie on the road to recovery, the Doughertys continue to support Magee year after year. It’s about two concepts known as “gratitude” and “loyalty.” On Saturday morning, John did a diner tour with Tom Knox that was a great success and later threw out the first pitch at the opening day of Little League in South Philly. After the game, John cooked and served hot dogs and hamburgers for the hungry sluggers. Saturday night found John at the Susan G. Komen Foundation Breast Cancer Awareness Dinner, where he shared good conversation with Dwight Evans. The Komen Foundation is a charity John and Local 98 have supported for years. On Sunday morning John was at the Breast Cancer Walk, where he shared some laughs with Dwight Evans and Chaka Fattah, and spent more than an hour on stage with Governor Rendell. And, to the nitwit who criticized John for wearing an Anaheim Angels windbreaker, you should know that John always wears that top to the breast cancer walk because it has a symbolic, sentimental value to him. That’s the real John Dougherty, not the bogeyman you bloggers like to imagine.

Knox even identified Nutter as the best candidate (after himself, of course). At the end of the day, you can't explain these things with logic. It's all about politics. Nutter rose in the polls and what do you know, Nutter becomes the target of Knox's scorn. It's all aimed at voters who haven't been following the race and only know what they see on TV or get in junk mail stuffed through their mail slot.

Al Capone was also a charitable and loyal guy. That doesn't mean he was good for Chicago.
Posted by JP | May 14, 2007 3:39 PM
Comparing Doc to Capone is as insulting as it is ridiculous. Johnny Doc does a lot of good for Philly. So, how many good things are you involved in? Charities? Volunteer work? Besides, of course, your good works that involve posting behind your initials on a blog a day before election day?
Posted by Jeff Marshall | May 14, 2007 4:10 PM
The comparison is to demonstrate that good deeds do not necessarily equal good man, especially when looking at Doc's political involvement. To point out Doc's charitable deeds without acknowledging his corrossive involvement in Philly politics is simply sticking your head in the sand. Why do you want my real name--so that Doc's goon squad can come and vandalize my house? It's his well documented thug tactics that has earned him his less than charitable reputation.
Posted by JP | May 14, 2007 4:17 PM
By the way, I don't doubt Doc's effectiveness as a Union Boss, but I do take issue with his efforts to hijack and distort the democratic process. I'll oppose that sort of thing whether it's Doc or Karl Rove. The only difference is, I don't fear Karl Rove smashing my car windows.
Posted by JP | May 14, 2007 4:35 PM
Wow JP, tongue-in-cheek, I didn’t know Al Capone did any charity.
What I want to see is a 40 or more percent turnout tomorrow with all voters making informed choices for who they feel is the best candidate.
I would like to thank TheNextMayor, YoungPhillyPolitics, FightForRoom215 and all the other blogs and websites that have done so much to get information to the voters and make this election a great one.
Everyone have a great election day and tell everyone you know to get out and vote! And I’m looking forward to discussing these issues more with you all after tomorrow.
Your new blogger friend,
Johnny Doc

Actually, Capone was well known for feeding the poor. He set up his own soup kitchens.
