Greeeeeat Another City Councilman who only cares about North and West Philly. I love the Illadelph, but it is quickly becoming the worst major city in the Northeast. Shameful. Philly must do better for itself.

Why would any person of color or anyone who gives a damn about civil liberties cast their vote for a candidate who openly advocates police harassment in "select" neighborhoods?!?
Posted by Kevin | May 15, 2007 10:47 PM
this fox news coverage couldn't be anymore amateur.

If I get frisked when this guy (Michael Nutter) is in office, I'm suing the city until there in a deficit that will keep them in the hole for centuries. I can't stand this arrogant, snobby sellout. He is a disgrace to the African American community. I wish Knox or Fattah would've won.
Posted by Ant Diddy | May 15, 2007 10:51 PM
A true winner won this election!
It's about time smarts, education, and brains won the day in Philadelphia!
Posted by Anonymous | May 15, 2007 10:53 PM
Note to any one seeking to become mayor....buy the newspapers!!!!!
Posted by Blah | May 15, 2007 10:59 PM
Finally the best candidate won! This is such a relief from the disappointments of recent elections in memory. Philly just got a huge boost in its effort to become a great city again.

People need to stop complaining about "stop and frisk" and look at whats going on in our streets. More murders than New York city is abominable...Nutter will be right declaring a citywide state of emergency and instituting stop and frisk. I believe he will try to respect civil rights...and he was right when he said its a civil right not to be shot at. Its about time someone with brains and vision is going to City Hall...not somebody with $5 million in the piggy bank.

Ant Diddy:
There is so much you don't know about your beloved "Knox." If you think for a second that any of his propeganda reflected his true agenda, you are mistaken.
Posted by anonymous | May 15, 2007 11:01 PM
Don't be fooled people... Except for infringing on the rights of people with the wrong skin tone, in the wrong neighborhoods, Nutter will maintain the status quo. Reformer?!? Spare me. What have you seen or heard that convinces you that he isn't in the bed with the pathetically corrupt democratic machine?!? All the guy's done in nearly twenty years on Council is shove a smoking ban down our throats.

i've been a follower of this site since its inception and posted on occasion ... and never stooped to the drama that has been the norm for the past month.
as a Nutter supporter, I have to admit it's predictable to see the nonsense that all those who lost are posting above ... over the past weeks, I've never seen such childish bullsh*t posted ... each post made me realize that I was supporting the right person to lead our city. Instead of discussing the issues, you went right for the old-school attack and destroy methods.
Good riddance to those bigoted obnoxious spinners of crap.
It's been quite a trip. See ya at the casinos. ;)

now that we have a real leader, philly can confront its problems and with well-thought solutions that are not just slogans.
Posted by Anonymous | May 15, 2007 11:04 PM
Where are you guys getting the Youth Commission results? All I can find is mayor and council.
Posted by Anonymous | May 15, 2007 11:04 PM
Eric...I suspect that you don't live in one of those "select" neighborhoods. I'm not giving up my rights in the name of "safety" or for any other reason for that matter. "I believe he will try to respect civil rights" That doesn't cut it for me.
Posted by Kevin | May 15, 2007 11:07 PM
Finally I can look forward to something good on Philly's horizon. The city is already on the verge of becoming great again, it just has a lot of issues that need intelligent solutions. Center city is desirable again to outsiders, and if we can fix the crime and the schools this boom can spread across the whole city. A real mayor is about to step in with the smarts to solve some of our biggest problems in a way that is not just a patch job.

Rob...
"Instead of discussing the issues, you went right for the old-school attack and destroy methods.
Good riddance to those bigoted obnoxious spinners of crap."
????
WTF?!? The guy has come out of his own mouth and advocated "stop and frisk" aka sanctioned police harassment.
What spin is involved in criticizing that notion?
Posted by Kevin | May 15, 2007 11:12 PM
Philadelphia has the highest crime rate of any city on the East Coast. Why would anybody who is "not" a criminal be against stop and frisk? For once an idea that protects the innocent. God Bless Mike Nutter.

Everyone must make sacrifices for the greater good of society.

It's about time that the uneducated and stupid Philadelphians that have destroyed this city for so long have FINALLY been put in their place!
Posted by Smart | May 15, 2007 11:19 PM
michael nutter is a class guy... who has maintained his poise and dignity in the face of adversity and never stooped to the level of his detractors.he is a positive image for the city of philadelphia ....the voters of this great city showed tom knox that his money is no good here ! let's enjoy the summer and let's all of us unite and give michael a unanamous victory in november ....cudos to michael on a well run campaign and of course olivia !

¡Viva El Nutter!
Posted by Anonymous | May 15, 2007 11:26 PM
CONGRATULATIONS PHILADELPHIA on having nominated a man we will be proud of as mayor!!!
Ant Diddy & Kevin: Nutter's position on stop & frisk was about one inch different from Fattah's, and his proposal has proven in other cities to be both effective in slowing the murder rate and constitutional. Sorry if you get inconvenienced, but having one of the country's highest murder rates is a serious issue, don't you think? I for one am tired of hearing gunshots on my street. The fact that Nutter accurately labeled it an "emergency" is one of the reasons we nominated him.
And Kevin, Nutter's reformer record goes way beyond the anti- smoking billl. Take a moment to read it before you start slandering the guy. (Why do you figure practically every newspaper in the city endorsed him?)
Charles: Are you just a plain racist or what?
Posted by David | May 15, 2007 11:26 PM
Michael Nutter has the culyons to lock up the thugs with illegal guns in the city, as well as to
roll back the archeic tax laws which have chased all of the business to the suburbs.
John Street has been a pay for play disaster, a bitter, self absorbed loser.
Happy Days!

Kevin:
I've nothing against Stop & Frisk, if it is implemented as it has been in other cities ... Too many people are walking around with weapons, concealedand and unlicensed.
The time has come to do more than the traditional 'fix'. I don't see it as police harassment and a pull on civil liberties, as long as the actions follow the letter of the law.
So, best for us to agree to disagree.

let's not bash mike nutter yet ...give him a chance ...mike is not vindictive ...he is focused on the future of philly and i think he will listen to good ideas ...it's his time to shine and make things better for all philadelphians ! he needs our help and i think he is sincere ...not owing to the wrong people...people must believe in their leaders and i believe in his integrity and strength !

simple...caught with a concealed weapon and no permit or license to carry....you pay a fine or possibly go to jail ........wow you don't need a ton of legislation to clear up that mess !

Brains and education finally WIN in Philadelphia!
Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2007 8:32 AM
People like Kevin are out of touch with reality. In fact, he probably doesnt live in a dangerous neighborhood. It seems like the safer the neighborhood the more likely people are to get on their soap box and criticize stop and frisk.
Posted by sj | May 16, 2007 11:08 AM
Hmmmm, all I can say is I REALLY hope that this brother from 55th & LArchwood is ready for the challenges that face not only West Philly & Center City but for the entire 191--. Afterall, if we have to look at that nose, mustache and listen to that whine in his voice....it should be for a good reason....and please no more daughter OLIVIA talk/commercials, let's get down to business.
ps Can we get rid of Billy King first Mike?
