We interrupt this blog to tell you about a really cool event.
On Sunday, at 8 p.m., The Next Mayor project will give you your best chance yet to see the five major Democratic candidates in action.
We will present a Candidate Forum, which will be broadcast - live - on WHYY TV12, on 91FM and on both www.TheNextMayor.com and www.WHYY.org.
But wait, this gets better.
This is not your standard, stilted candidate debate. This is a discussion among the five candidates, moderated by WHYY's Marty Moss-Coane. And the candidates will hold this discussion in front of an audience made up of civic groups from throughout the city who have been a part of The Next Mayor's Community Network.
(I'd like to see the candidates try to dodge a tough question when an advocate for the city's children, or for business, or for crime victims is sitting right there in front of them.)
In fact, those groups helped write the questions for the forum.
Helping us to present this forum is the Philadelphia Inquirer's Great Expectations project -- and some of the citizens who are helping to inform that effort will be in the audience, too.
And it gets even better!
After the forum, the audience will discuss what they heard in a special Town Hall meeting -- which will also be broadcast on TV, radio and the Internet. The events will also be re-broadcast on TV12 and WHYY's digital channels, made available via Comcast On Demand, and archived on this site.
Please tune in to watch (8 p.m. Sunday - set the TiVo) and visit here to comment.
We deeply appreciate your interest and attention to one of the most important elections this city has had in years. Obviously, we're very proud of this event, and we believe it will help you make up your mind about which candidate you believe will best serve the city.

I Am african american,I will vote for chaka fattah,Due to micheal nutters unfair policy on poor african americans and latinos.[thinks we should be stopped and frisked] I urge all to vote fattah. He sounds like a mayor who will finally address the symptoms of our communities.Unless the police are going to come with job applications instead of billyclubs and guns and frisking us, we need fattah for philly.
Thanks all peace and unity

So - does this mean you folks are going to include the LGBT community this time? You've totally excluded us thus far.

I am watching tonight's debate. Chaka, Brady and Evans are angry men, because they are loosing! And I LOVE IT! Nutter and Knox acted like mature men. Good for them. Chaka, Brady and Evans are scared. Loosing isn't the worst thing. They should start to embrace it so that they are ready for May 15th. I hope the next debates are more meaty with topics, I am tired of hearing about the hocking the airport and unions that are backing certain candidates.

Fattah's policy paper on crime also calls for stop and frisk.

Fattah completely disrespected the advocates at the homeless forum. Along with the rest of the democratic candidates with not coming, except mike nutter. He is the only candidate that has ideas that are out of the box to address all issues of the city. Knox may be a nice guy that has worked hard to get where he is, but that doesn't make you a good mayor. Stop and frisk is a big measure but the murder rate is big problem which i don't hear any good ideas from the rest of the others. It was proven to work in NYC and i could work here. And Fattah's ideas are all based on privitizing the airport which is not a lock to go through. The problem with privitizing is that all comes down to the bottom line, money, not accounting for people. The reason Mike Nutter will be a good mayor is that he see the city as whole, not the just neighborhoods or downtown but everyone.
