Wow. Chalk this one up to very coincidental scheduling. On the same day that Radio Times talks to two educators about the work they've done to turn their schools around, Fresh Air (a nationally distributed NPR program produced here in Philadelphia) has this:
Frank Burd and Ed Klein are Philadelphia public school teachers who were attacked on the job. Both Burd, a math teacher, and Klein, a music teacher, talk about the difficulties of teaching in inner city schools.
Fresh Air doesn't often talk about local Philadelphia issues, so it'll be interesting to see where they go with this long-form and in-depth conversation. This will air today at 3 and again at 7 on WHYY 91FM. You can also listen live on the internet and or sign up for the Fresh Air podcast.
Does anyone disagree that this an issue that the next mayor should be concerned about?

Yes, the next mayor must address this. Michael Nutter should personally patrol every school corridor and issue stern warnings to the lovely young children who assault teachers. That will show them once and for all that Philadelphia won't tolerate this aberrant behavior.

He can certainly deal with these issues if he can safely get from City Hall to any school without being shot on the way. His first job is to turn Philly from a fair approximation of Bagdad back into a city.

The next mayor cannot fix a mindset that thinks that having babies out of wedlock at 15 years old is ok. He can't fix a mindset that thinks buying bling is ok while having your hand out for welfare cash. You're living in a dreamland.

The occasional teacher getting roughed up is about # 246 on the list of important things for the mayor to be concerned about. 200 murders so far this year is #1.

STRAIGHT UP > I'm sick of politicians unfazed and purified , I'm sick of recycled school and mayoral comments. If the city is really about something other than dull conversation ... solve the below immediately.
The gun bill
The homicide tally
The budget
A city hall security plan
SEPTA
Health care
Otherwise please spare the public on adjectives , modifiers and subjects with no reality of becoming solved. Its only causing DISCOURSE.
