Reporting some good news for once

This program note for Radio Times with Marty Moss-Coane:

A conversation with two Philadelphia School principals. BARBARA ADDERLEY, principal of Stanton Elementary School in North Philadelphia and STERLING GARRIS, principal of Blaine Elementary School in Strawberry Mansion have been lauded for dramatic academic turnarounds in their schools. We talk with them about how they have achieved success despite enormous obstacles.

The program is currently underway. Given how many people are tuning out local television news because of how "repetitive," "superficial" and "not nutritious" it is, it's nice to know that some programs do occasionally devote time to people who are making a difference in the community and give them a chance to explain thoroughly how they are doing it.

I'll put up the podcast link when it's available. And here is the podcast. Feel free to comment.

Could it be that while 2 schools have nice gains all the others suck and that's why it is newsworthy? And since commercial TV is stuck trying to give news to the lowest common denominator of viewers, your snarky comments about commercial vs. public TV, which I have to pay to support, seem a little shaded to a cheap shot. And is this a mayor's blog space or another liberal blog for budding socialists to exoress their views?

all the news that fits my left wing agenda:

"This is a blog space for discussing all of the issues that the next mayor will have power over, either directly by law or indirectly by influence."

So you're suggesting that the next mayor should have influence over local news reporting decisions? I think in the 1940s we called that "fascism", but I could be wrong.

    Had enough yet?:

Local news won't waste very much time on this because the vast majority of viewers are not in Philadelphia proper and could care less. Talking about lousy schools in Philly is repetitive, superficial and not nutritious. Until the voting public in Philly start thinking on their own and not following the democratic party and the unions (look at us, we are a blue collar town), they will continue to be led down the path of substandard services. Septa, DHS, Philly school system..all examples of what unions, politics and bad management create and perpetuate. Remember, this is a city that re-elected John Street and most of city council, so why are they surprised that schools, services, etc. suck? BTW, I am a card carrying member of WHYY, and very much aware of what 91FM broadcast.

First of all until the media stops trying to turn a BUCK on children , message suggestions and rating sweeps no doubt the television viewer will tune out on the news.

Second , who is Taubenberger , any given time you mention his name to someone , you receive the answer WHO and far as Nutter , most people I know consider Nutter a controlled media darling who will be lucky if he can make (4) years in one piece.

When it comes down to Stanton and Blaine schools , strange some parents are offering a different performing perspective than the invoice carrier , WHYY 70 BLOG.
