6 months later, Nutter gets the one that got away

Back in the spring, when Michael Nutter collected so many newspaper endorsements he could wallpaper his den with them, the one paper that went for another candidate was the Philadelphia Tribune.

Well, today, he can count them among his editorial backers.

If the top AA businessmen in Philly that support street, such as the Tribune's Bogle who is on the board of several businesses with members that helped elect Street (some with significant criminal backgrounds), then Bogle has certainly hurt more African Americans than he helped in his stubborn refusal to endorse the already used stop and frisk.

Bogle's associations make me wonder what his real motivation was in opposing the most important way to make the black community safer.

Fareed Ahmed aka Eugene Hearn, although a VP and former President of many businesses involving Bogle was formerly a high placed member of a heroin ring who was arrested and successfully charged.

How much can such a person really "reform" I wonder? As much as Clarence Fowler, perhaps?

Nutter sure doesn't need endorsements from someone with the associations of a Bogle. The Tribune's stubborn blindness to crime and it's dated approach to causes and solutions is certainly something that the whole city has to question.

It's not enough for the Tribune to be the "speak no evil" and "no dirty laundry" paper of the black community anymore. It's denial and enabling harms the community it supposedly is devoted to serving.

The Tribune, like Jill Porter, is stuck in easily debunkable positions. One of my favorite is that "black folk just need jobs" and that "the loss of jobs" is what is killing the black community in Philly.

That was probably true in Bogle's time, in Street's time, Johnson's time.

But Mustafa Ali had a job, and a business. Jerome Whitaker had a job too, his mother said.

These criminal mindset types don't want jobs, they want to be gangstas. They respect and fear thugs, and want that respect and fear. They care little what the middle class thinks of their choices, or what respectable people value.

Porter and Bogle, like Street and Johnson, have to accept that some people who are black criminals are not really prevented from choosing to live normally.

What prevents them from picking up a gun? It's the answer we all fear: nothing.

Nothing but being on the inside where they can't get them.

Where's the beef? We've got a good economy, jobs, and good gun laws NOW:

With respect, again, to the Tribune folks and their political equivalents, the white liberals, like a Jill Porter, limiting gun sales won't prevent straw buyers. Love Porter, but on this issue, I have to say that there are jobs, there are gun laws -- where's the beef?

Cracking down on straw purchases and funding gun laws now in place will, however. I support one a month, but I also know it will take decades of organizing and legislating to pass such a thing.

Lobbying for long term solutions is not bad -- it's just bad if that is your primary strategy as is the case for Sylvester and Street.

Plus, I have to agree with the gun conservatives on one point: none of the cop killers in Philly this year could legally buy a gun.

None, zero, zippy. They all were convicted felons.
They are buying the guns from illegal car trunk dealers. We have a large scale illegal gun trade here. Let's crack down on that.

I defy Street and Johnson to start in earnest. We do not have to wait for Harrisburg of the federal government to start this.

Will it be expensive? Yes. Are our PPD members worth it? Yes. Will we need more prison space than what we've had without any changes since the 90s? Yes.

Time to get real, people. Practical solutions that are possible now have to be our first best effort.

The press has to call for this in force.

    Look at the source:

Street once confusingly alluded to there being some problem that he had with convicted felons not being able to own a gun because they were disproportionately black.

I was like, whuh? Run that by me again? You see the same sort of veiled allusions to the problem the Tribune has with the "enforcement" of gun laws "on black men" again, referring to convicted felons, obviously, since there is no law preventing black men from owning guns.

So, let's look at the source here, too.

Street will tell you in candid moments that gun laws discriminate against black gun owners since they "disproportionately have criminal records" due to a "racist" system that is somehow racist even though the charges were due to an AA police officer, an AA judge, a minority shop owner, an AA witness, etc. here in Philly. Plus, the whole "racist" system has been presided over by an AA mayor and police chief.

Blacks need to stop blaming others for problems of their own making - start taking responsibility for your own life and actions, instead of making excuses for your failures.

    Jasper Zeigler Jr:

The morning after TUESDAY's vote. Was your mental and physcial energy wasted on a political VOTE. Is a unfaithful confidence from a public INFLUENCE of ballot casting about to end or premiere a promise.

Has a huge disservice been done to further send the " City Of Philadelphia " into more COMPLACENCY corruption , crime , murder and a resorting to critique intelligence.

How mch more will a failing school system become and how much more won't things change.

The FUTURE is here , there were plenty of vision forums to have selected from , so now that the new IMPRESARIO will be conducting , the bearing IMPRECATION awaits.
