Red Sox 7, Phillies 4 - Wrap

The game started at 1:05 and was basically over by 1:15 after Mike Lowell's homer made it 4-0. The Phils had a couple chances, but when Utley's not hitting, they're a different bunch. Kind of like Tiger with a leg-and-a-half -- except he wins.

Charlie Manuel said after the game that Utley would have been given a day off if the Phillies were playing tomorrow. Utley's 0-for-20 slump has dropped his average from .317 to .294. Manuel said correctly, though, that Utley did hit the ball well today.

The Daily News' three stars of the game: 1. J.D. Drew. 2. Dustin Pedroia. 3. Manny Delcarmen, who extinguished the Phils last threat by getting out of a two-on, no-out jam with Victorino, Utley and Howard making the outs.

The Phils will have a day off to lick their wounds before the AL West leading Angels come to town. RHP Adam Eaton (2-4, 4.57) will take the mound opposite RHP Ervin Santana (8-3, 3.40).

If the Phillies cannot hit the "big guys", they will not make it in the playoffs if they are still alive at the end of the year. If I were a pitcher, I would continue to throw curve balls to Howard down and low. He would never get a hit.
