Okay, it's August, but I have to confess that for some time now I have been tracking the fact that tickets for the Metropolitan Opera's Hansel and Gretel conducted by Vladimir Jurowski go on sale today (Sunday) at noon. There are nine performances, but the one that caught my eye is the first - a matinee on Christmas eve day. I am eager to hear what Jurowski - who made a wonderful impression in Philadelphia with Russian repertoire - does with Humperdinck's German folk-tune and basically Wagnerian score.

Not being from the area (although raised there), I have not had the chance to hear Jurowski live, although virtually all the reports I've seen are glowing about his work. However, from reading your Inquirer reviews and articles about Jurowski, and knowing how Murphy's Law operates only too well, one wonders if you may be unwittingly setting yourself up for a fall in that regard. If one believes Norman Lebrecht (and granted that this is Lebrecht that we're talking about now, hence the "if"), Stormin' Norman says that Jurowski has said "no" to any sort of major position with Philadelphia, such as in this article. This isn't to say that a position like Principal Guest Conductor may not be possible, as you'd previously written, which would be a good option in the relatively short term itself.
