SALT LAKE CITY -- Kyle Korver realizes that this won’t be just another game. After being traded from the 76ers on Saturday, he now has to face his former teammates when the Sixers visit the Utah Jazz tonight at Energy Solutions Arena.
Speaking to reporters after this morning’s shootaround, Korver admitted that he has to guard against his emotions tonight.
“I try to live a relatively drama-free life, but the last couple of days, the emotions have been up and down quite a bit,” Korver said. “I have never experienced something like this.”
Korver was traded to Utah for Gordan Giricek and a future first round pick.
Giricek says he is treating this like any other game. It doesn’t appear as if Korver can do the same.
On another front, Willie Green, who has missed the last five games due to a groin injury, says he hopes to play tonight.
“I’m a game-time decision, but I’m feeling pretty good,” he said.
Coach Maurice Cheeks is still battling the flu and missed the shootaround. Cheeks according to a team official, is expected to coach tonight’s game.
The Sixers assistant coaches ran the shootaround.

It will be somewhat disappointing watching Kyle stroke the three's for Utah tonight, especially considering how long Sixer fans awaited a player with his range, only to have his time come and past. Hopefully "Sweet" Lou Williams can pick up some of the slack from 3 point range. Side note: I thought Portland did an exceptional job of styming the young Williams Sunday night and it was nice to see him bounce back and excel in the 4th quarter against Seattle on Monday.
That being said, Korver's defense and athleticism are suspect, and in the end, I think Ed made the right move, opening up some salary cap room at the end of the season.
I believe I share the sentiment of most knowledgeable Sixer's fans when I wish Korver the best in the future (though not necessarily tonight ;)

Korver is a one-dimensional offensive player that plays no defense...the sixers made a great move by getting rid of him. He is a nice fit for a good team, but in a waste for a project like the Sixers.

Trackboy1 -
About the plus/minus stat... Do you look at that stat every Sixers game? You gotta tell me: which Sixers are the best in regards to that stat? I gotta know! I'm gonna guess that Willie Green is almost always on the minus side, and that Jason Smith is usually on the plus side. What does it tell you about Rodney Carney? Anything surprising?
I'm not asking you to do research here, I'm just asking you about what you usually see when you check that stat. I'm on vacation for a while, can't watch any games.
Thanks!

I hope Korver has a nice run with Utah. He's a class act and always gave it his all, even if he wasn't the most athletically gifted player.
On another note, it is my HOPE that Ed Stefanski is just posturing for a better deal re: Andre Miller. He traded Korver to free up cap space and got essentially nothing in return; however, he won't trade a 32 yr old PG who is unable to play any kind of defense? Andre's having a great season, but won't be at this level in 4-5 years when the Sixers are making a serious run at the championship. Trade Miller now while he's at the TOP of his game; if he were 26 or 27 and could play some D, then you're looking at a different situation.
Again, I think Mr. Stefanski is a smart guy and is just informing the league that the price for Andre has gone up. I really hope this is the case.

I hope you're right Dean. Would you pull the trigger on Andre Miller for Jason WIlliams (expiring $9M) and the heat's #1?

Without a low post threat at PF,or another like Iverson, teams focused more on stopping Korver, and it worked. Now that he is in Utah,it will be impossible for teams to focus solely on Korver, and as a result,he should excel in Utah. Now onto another
matter,Willie Green expects to play tonight, and Cheeks should just tell him to rest it one more game. When he is activated,it almost certainly means that Carney will be relegated to the end of the bench.Willie Green is another guy who could use a change of scenery. The perfect fit for Willie would be to be traded to Lakers, because they lack a serious scoring threat, and with the run n gun of the west,he would fit in nicely.

In reference to the plus minus, it normally has more to do with team play on the court than individual play on the court. Thus, since the sixers have been outscored on the season, the sixers who played the most minutes (Miller, Iguodala) probably have the worst point differential. Even when Miller scored 29 against the Grizzlies he had a pretty negative score, because his teammates didn't do anything. Green is a normally consistent negative. but never too large, because he's not on the court as often. His play , then, would reflect more on his teammates' plus/minus.
And notice that the sixers have fared pretty well without him. That is probably a better indication than plus/minus

DJ EZ - At the beginning of the season, I would have definitely made the Miller for JWill and #1. Now?? Probably not. With Andre Miller, Dwayne Wade, Ricky Davils, Udonis Haslem, and Shaq as a starting 5, Miami could easily make a run at the 7th or 8th spot in the East. Anything less than a top 10 choice (or a potentially explosive young player) for Miller plus cap relief is unacceptable.
As I've stated before, I'd be focusing on Denver right now. You can definitely get JR Smith, Najera's expiring deal, and Steven Hunter for Miller and Carney. With this deal, you (a) lock up a legitimate backup C for the next 3 years, (b) free up $9-10M in add'l cap space for the summer, and (c) get a raw, but major upside talent in 22 yr old JR Smith, who is stuck in a minutes crunch behind AI and Carmello. Then, you still have your lottery pick AND $22M under the cap to go get a premier PF, a PG of the future, and a top-flight shooting G in the draft. This would be my strategy.

Hahaha, if the Lakers are looking for a scoring threat then why in gods name would they ever, EVER look at Willie Green? Willie Green is ridiculously over paid, has little to no upside from anything we've seen before and on a good team might at best be their 11th man. I would personally like to see Mo Cheeks continue to go with Carney, first of all because he still has some potential that could be brought out. I'm going to steal this line from Bill Simmons but is there anyone in this world besides Billy King and Willie Green's mom who thinks he's worth 3 million a year and a starting position?

Who did I happen to run into at the mall, the morning show chick from sportstalk950,Meredith.She puts that duck from WIP,Rhea Hughes to shame.Too bad she is stuck with that loser Glenn"terrible QB"Foley.I asked her what she thought of the Sixers trading Korver and she said she was happy to see him go to a winning team, but at the same time sad that she was losing her future husband.Tha't when the hater in me came out and blasted Korver,in which she replied with her beautiful face, with laughter.Too hot a chick to be stuck behind those losers at sportstalk950.

SixerzGuy, the most surprising thing about the plus/minus stat is that Thad Young is almost always in the plus. Also, in the games the Sixers win, it's the bench that's most in the plus. Seems like when the bench plays well and scores some, the Sixers are fairly tough.
Now to J Smith, it's not "hatin" to call for him to get some NDBL time. His jumper is clearly not there. His offensive game has hit a wall from the early part of the season. Maybe if Mo played him and Sammy together some, we'd see more out of him. He's never in the game with Sammy, getting a chance to play minutes at the 4...Mo almost exclusively plays Smith at the 5.
P.S. PLAY HERB NOW!

Dean, there is a reason that the 76ers traded Steven Hunter. I doubt if anyone in this organization wants his soft, non-rebounding, no hands, scared of contact, 44 percent free throw shooting behind back.
Instead of your Denver deal, I'd hold out for Miami or the Lakers. Here are some deals that I'd consider if I was Stefanski:
Miami Heat -- A. Miller/Carney for Jason Williams/Earl Barron/D. Cook. The salaries match, the 76ers get $20M in cap room next summer and a potential future starting 2-guard in Cook.
L.A. Lakers -- A. Miller, C. Booth, S. Randolph, Lou Amundson for Kwame Brown, Sasha Vujacic, Javaris Crittenton or Jordan Farmar. (With this deal, the 76ers get an additional $11M in expiring contracts this year and a young PG). This deal is a steal for the Lakers because next year, Miller's contract expires at the same time as Odom's, creating $25M in salary cap room. Right in time for the Lakers to add a third star to the team for Kobe and Bynum before Kobe decides whether or not to opt out of the final two years of his deal.
Cleveland Cavaliers -- A. Miller/Lou Amundson for D. Gooden, Ira Newble and 2008 no. 1 pick. (With this deal, the 76ers would get an additional $3M in cap room, a starting PF in Gooden and the Cavs no. 1 pick in 2008. So we'd go into the summer with $13M in cap room and 2 no. 1 picks for 2008, a lot less attractive than the other two deals.)
Seattle Supersonics -- A. Miller for Chris Wilcox/Delonte West. Additional fringe player would have to be thrown in on each side. (Sixers get a starting PF in Wilcox and a backup point in D. West).
The Denver deal just isn't that appealing to me.
Your thoughts, anyone?
