Another Honor For Miller

LOS ANGELES -- Andre Miller continues to be recognized for what is turning out to be the best of his nine NBA seasons.
Today for the second time this season Miller was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week.,
The Sixers went 2-1, beating Orlando and Phoenix, sandwiched around a loss to Golden State.
Miller averaged 23 points, 7.7 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 2.0 steals.
After today’s shootaround at Loyola Marymount in preparation for tonight’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers, Miller was his usual self, not getting too high but appreciative of the honor.
"I’m sure other guys could have won the award," Miller said. "Andre (Iguodala) has been playing good basketball and other guys on other teams are playing good basketball. I am thankful that they chose me."
He became the first Sixer to win the award more than once in a season since Allen Iverson was named three times in 2005-2006.
Kobe Bryant was named the Western Conference player of the week.
Miller's is averaging 6.8 assists and a career high 17.1 points. His previous best was 16.5 points per game in 2001-2002 for Cleveland. One reason for the scoring increase is that Miller is shooting a career-high 49.6 percent from the field.
Despite the added scoring, his major strength has been running the offense and making those around him better.
Consequently, the Sixers, with a 27-33 record and winners of 9 of their last 12, have played better than most predicted. Miller is a main reason which is why he has earned his second conference player of the week award after earning a total of two in his first eight seasons.

Philly fan in NYC:

Congrats to Andre Miller. Instead of wasting time discussing whether the Sixers should have traded Miller (hey, even I thought it might have been a good opportunity to sell high), I think we should all be excited that we have one of the best PGs in the league. If we hold onto Miller and can get an elite PF this offseason, then we got a pretty solid starting 5, and that's pretty exciting. I would love to see the Sixers get a little playoff experience this year...winning a playoff series or even 2 would be huge for luring free agents this offseason. Veterans want to win championships, so they sign with teams that appear to be getting close. A solid playoff appearance would help lure the best players to Philly.

Jeff Mays:

Kudos to Andre Miller. He deserves every bit of recognition he has received this season. The Sixers would be wise to keep this guy around. He is the reason our young players are always improving and hopefully live up to their full potential. His calm demeanor as he guides the offense helps calm the young players down who have a tendancy to play out of control, enabling them to concentrate and hit shots. He knows when we need him to score, and he knows when to get others involved. His court vision is second to none. I don't think the Sixers could come close to getting equal value for him in a trade. A young team like the Sixers need his maturity on the court. They would be wise to lock him up and keep him happy.

John:

CLASSY guy Andre Miller...we are lucky to have him...as we are Mo Cheeks!

There is something special about the SELFLESSNESS of a very good Point Guard. Sure Miller will shoot the ball but only when he KNOWS his team needs it

It is all about TEAM with Andre Miller. With all due respect to his warrior mentality, it was NEVER all about team with Iverson.

sixerzguy:

Zeru,

First off, I don't think you know the meaning of short-sighted, and since you don't really know how to use big words like that, don't later use the word "remedial".

Being short-sighted has nothing to do with wanting better players on other teams. You're the one who's arguing for argument's sake by being purposely ignorant of Sam's weaknesses. But I understand the phenomenon of stupid people not knowing they're stupid, but there's hope for you yet, if you can see how much Mo's improved this year. Tyson Chandler does a lot of things better than Sammy, go ask Chris Paul or other Sixers or Mo who they'd rather have.

BTW, if anyone's the mad wife, it's you and your irritating, mind-numbing ragging and nagging. You got issues man, take care of them before coming on here and talking basketball. Learn how to use the word short-sighted.

WhatNow:

Congrats to Miller. He is the one player that we need to keep on the team. Why let him go so he can make another squad better? Makes no sense to me and no matter what is written about him, he stays positive and does his job on the floor.

sixerzguy:

Zeru,

I take back the last post, that's not what I'm about, talking about fellow Sixers fans having issues and being stupid. I just wanna talk ball, and I really could do without the put-downs, let's save that low-class junk for the New York fans, agree? Later.

Zeru:

I explained my anologies as best as I could for you guy...Its time for me to move on...I cant even believe you brought your ranting and raving into a brand new blog about Andre Miller's accomplishments...Your reaction and baseless negative energy is all I needed to prove my point about shortsightness...All you seem to be capable of is focusing on negative things...Which you draw to yourself by only seeing what you want and not the entire picture or room for growth..Tyson Chandler no longer has upside and neither does Camby..At this point they are what they are...Sam still can grow... If you need a definiton for shortsightedness I suggest you just go look it up in the dictionary..My vocabulary and use of it formidable..You can look that up too. The Sixers Gm Ed S. was very shortsighted in trading Kyle Korver only have to pick up a more expensive shooter later. There you go. Understand now? I'm in here to talk sports with fans that have a mentality that is positive and not so SHORTSIGHTED that they cant see goo

Zeru:

I agree Sixersfan and I apologize if I rubbed you the wrong way. All in the passion of loving the same team... One love

KM:

If anyone deserves it, its Miller.

I feel like at the beginning of the season he was disappointed to still be here, but sucked it up and decided that he's going to bring it regardless. Here's one satisfied fan who hopes with us for at least part of next season too - its not just his game that i want the guys to learn, its his attitude too.

suede:

Congratulations Dre, I loved the class you showed when you left a playoff team to come here. I hope we get to see you here when we become capable of winning a championship. Fellow bloggers, do you think E.S. sits down over the summer with both Dre!s and by telling them both he wants them back that that helps get both deals done.As a side note, can a draft pick along with the 10 million in cap space along with the improvement of our young players make us eastern conference contenders next year?

sixerzguy:

Zeru,

Seriously, unless provoked, cut it out with the put-downs. You didn't rub me the wrong way, you just got me into that "i gotta preface my opinion by insulting some other guy's first" kind of posting. If I want that I'll go up to the Bronx and crap on the Yankees with my buddies up there.

Do you know how often people call in to 610 or 950 to talk about the Sixers? Do you know how many non-Philly articles there are per season on the Sixers? Very, very few. This is basically THE only place to go if you want Sixers talk. THE ONLY PLACE. Thad Young was playing well waaaaaay before ESPN noticed. The Elton Brand and Josh Smith talk started here. I bet no one in the NBA knows about Willie Green except for the people who frequent this blog. I know you're hard on Stefansky, but one possible reason he didn't trade anyone was because the NBA doesn't give a poo about Philly at this particular point in time, and other GMs thought they could just steal from our no-name (to the rest of the NBA) roster.

I watch NBA ball all the time, no one talks about the Sixers, except as an easy win on their schedule. If this were New York in the 7th seed, we'd be inundated with David Lee this and David Lee is Jesus, and who knows what else.

I'd like to think Sixer fans have thicker skins, but part of me is worried you (and other posters) scared off the ones who aren't so quick with verbal barbs - they have great opinions, too. There was even one time, some woman wrote something in, and someone said, "Go back to the kitchen!", that was uncalled for. If this place becomes a forum for just trading insults and extravagant name-calling, then that'd be a damn tragedy, could you not contribute to that? How's that for not being short-sighted? Kidding.

Zeru:

The Truth is Sixerguy I never 'attack' someone's opinion until my opinion is 'aggressively' attacked. All the things I say is my pure 'opinion' and if I see somebody I agree with or agrees with me I'll say it. Most of the time my charm comes out when someone just nitpicks at everything I say. Some people agree with me some dont thats just life. But most of all the arguements I've had were overly agressive reactions to something I pointed out. No It's impossible to judge Ed this early..Some it is a reaction to the moves he has made so far compared to what other teams have done and the korver trade just doesnt/didnt make sense to me. But time will tell right? Just like I see some of my views echoed by others and vice versa...It's a great forum to be heard. Even with the intense disagreements I believe the truth is in it and i'm sure other people reading it regardless of its aggressive nature. And for those who are easily offended nobody I have argued with showed they werent humble enough to apologize so we'll

Zeru:

...just continue to bash each other's heads in...If that aint brotherly love I dont know what is

Zeru:

And I dont put anybody down...If you go back to how I even met you will notice you took the first shot...But i'm not sensitive at all...So nothing said bothers me...For those who want the kinder gentler blog there is an adience in here for every style of fan...Its like going to the playground when you were younger...You know the guys you should play with and the ones that arent quite your style...Different levels of fanhood lol But we are all on the same team but dont bring it unless you can take...We both do what we do so we are sports brothers..peace lol

Nigel:

Andre Miller has been the best true point guard we have seen since our current coach. He gives us exactly what we need when we need it. Whether it be a bucket, a rebound, or a nice pass. I believe that he can play at this level for another 3-4 years. I hope that he agrees to an extension. Because today I read an interview with him that made it seem like he wasn't excited about the idea of resigning. He stated that he was a west coast guy and thinks that Philly is ok but will just be happy if he has a job. But congrats to him and I hope that a deal will eventually be worked out.

Zetu:

And most of arguments had were pretty intellectually based regardless of the barbs...Good contrasting opinions and points on both sides...I'm sure alot of people enjoy some of the ongoing views as much as we like expressing them

Thanks Marc

P.S We need a eagles blog man...Think you could work some magic with that? I have some Mcnabb and Eagles organization bashing I need to get off of my chest lol

Joe Doc:

Congradulations to Andre Miller! He deserves all the recognition he gets. I think he is the main reason this team has over achieved. Every player on that roster is better because of him! I would like to see him sign a 3-4 year extension too. The problem is he'll probably want 5-6 years to stay here and I wouldn't want the Sixers to sign him that long.

Zeru- since everybody is back to friendly debate. I have to disagree with your statement:
"Tyson Chandler no longer has upside and neither does Camby..At this point they are what they are...Sam still can grow."
While I think Camby has maxed out his potential, I'm not so sure about Chandler. He has gotten better since he's played with Paul and might still grow a bit. I definitely don't agree with "Sam still can grow"! I think we have seen the best of him this year. Just look at how much he has regressed as of late. It almost looks like he is disappointed he wasn't traded at the deadline. He seems to have lost focus around the same time as the deadline. Maybe he's disappointed we didn't get help, but he definitely seems to have taken a step back

Zeru:

Andre Miller IS underrated. Even with this recognition..For a guy like this who is versitile to change his game for the betterment of the team is something we havent had for a long time...Make no mistake about it...The Sixers are the Miami heat without him minus their "attendance". He has made the Iverson trade liveable and created hope for players who lived in the vacuum once known as allen iverson..Nothing short of a miracle considering where we were berfore the trade till now ...Much props Dre

Joe Doc:

I agree with all that Zeru!

Anybody see what happened to AK47? I turned on the game and seen him be wheeled out of the arena. Something to do with his right hip.

sfw:

Joe Doc, I just think Sam has difficulty concentrating for the entire season.
I also disagree to Ze's comments regarding Chandler. If Chris Paul is the reason he's doing better why hasn't Andre Miller made Sammy better? Chris is the much better player but the sixers in general have improved under Miller's leadership.

Sammy has really been helped by Reggie's presence but he needs to assert himself across an entire season. It just hasn't happened yet and probably never will. Historically, how many NBA players suffered from similar issues? That's what seperates the good/great ones from just the ordinary players.

sixerzguy:

Zeru dude,

Ok, back to the bashing heads:

I am not humble - I flip-flop on a lot of stuff, but I flat-out think I'm right on the Sammy D eval, you don't get an inch on that one, buddy, I think you like Sammy too much, he's a freak athlete, but I can't believe you don't see his dumb mistakes and how he limits the offense. My Sixers team has Chandler, yours has Sammy.

I never do this, but I checked what I wrote, re: special olympics, I think I was baiting you into discussing more about Sammy's basketball knowledge, cuz if you see something I don't, I'm all for education (unlike Sammy) but you decided to discuss short-sightedness instead, that was not related at all! Speaking of bringing but not being able to take, you gotta be able to take the nitpicking, the best of us here do that, if I got into an argument with Morty or Dean, they could probably nitpick me 'til I slit my wrists...

I remember you discussing Sammy with Hugh and that other Zarathastra guy - I remember the discussions being good, both of you guys not understanding how the other could not understand the other, funny stuff. Then whatthehell jumped in with something about raping Hugh under the basket, or something like that. I'm pretty sure you're sick of talking about him, maybe we can argue over something else.

Speaking of Hugh and Zarathastra, I haven't seen them around - see what I mean about you putting people off? You weren't the one who told that woman to go back to the kitchen, were you?

Enjoy the Clippers game, I hope your particularly enjoy it every time a pass bounces off Sammy D's hands. Can't watch, will have to read about it under this blog tomorrow.

Zeru:

I feel you Joe...but i'm not sure how much more development Chandler will do with his offensive game if that is the upside you are refering to...Can Chandler develop into an even better rebounder shot blocker and overall better defensive player like Camby turned himself into? Absolutely. But me admitting have a problem with letting go of Sam being able to do that also and the fact he just has better physical tools than Chandler. That is what i have a problem of letting go. Camby wasnt nothing until like 2 years ago..Same goes for Chandler. My hope is he puts it altogether while he is a Sixer..And it starts with his teammates letting him get used to handling the ball away from crisis situations of a forced pass between a doubleteam while there is 5 seconds left on the clock...Or Andre miller not holding the ball at the top of the key for 14 secs when he gets tired knowing he isnt really a 1 on 1 style of breakdown artist unless that is his intention from jump. Sam could be experimenting in the post.

Zeru:

I also admitt that sam's attutide seems to be changing...He did complement Dallas not too long ago so you might have a point on him expecting a trade...I dont know ...Really Joe I'm just hoping for the best.

Zeru :

Ok Sixerguy i openly admitt to what you said about me liking Sammy because he is a freak athlete man...I truly want to believe his lack of in game coordination has to do with Sam not getting the ball much..That is my optimistic hope. Is it realistic? He's given some hope that things can get better. I hope he turns out man.

Joe Doc
Nah I missed it...Wonder what happened i got stuck watching the knicks..AK47 is a beast wouldnt mind having him at all either..He's the first Josh Smith...I'll be back yall the game is coming on

suede:

Sammy posted up 4 times in the first quarter, damn!!!!

Zeru:

Yeah he did suede and three of them had me cracking up lol go Sammy!
