Extra Hours Lead To More Minutes For Carney

He is now coming an extra hour early and staying later than just about anybody else. Long after practice is over, Rodney Carney continues to work on his outside shooting.
And it has paid off.
Carney has endured a frustrating up and down season.
His minutes have fluctuated and while earlier in the season it seemed to affect him, he has seemingly put it all behind and has been a major factor in a few of the most important wins of the season.
The Sixers wouldn’t have come close to winning at Detroit had Carney not come off the bench to score 16 points. He added 18, including 12 in the fourth quarter when the Sixers overcame an 18-point deficit in the 110-106 win at Chicago.
And even though he shot 2 for 9 on Saturday, Carney scored nine points, added two three pointers in the 103-96 victory over San Antonio.
While some may look at it as Carney increasing his trade value, maybe it could be a case of him being able to help the Sixers the most.
As stated before, Carney might be one of the top 10 (maybe top 5) athletes in the NBA.
His game is tailored for a transition offense, but whether he continues to get minutes in the NBA will be determined by his perimeter skills.
And that is where he is showing the most improvement and confidence. In the last three games he is shooting 7 for 11 from beyond the arc.
It’s no secret that the Sixers are a below average perimeter shooting team and if Carney can provide that threat it opens everything up for both him and his teammates.
While it’s too early to say he has definitely turned the corner, anybody would have to be encouraged by his recent play.
No doubt, he took advantage of the fact that Willie Green missed the games against Detroit and Chicago with a back injury. In the NBA opportunities always rise and it seems that Carney is making the most of his most recent chance.
Those extra hours staying after practice are now providing him a few more minutes and they’ve been pretty good ones lately.

datruth4life:

Marc, a timely post on Carney. I think he is starting "to get it." I think he realizes that his athleticism alone won't keep him in the NBA and it won't get him regular burn.

He's starting to put in the work. I saw the interview with Dei Lynum before the Spurs game where he said he has taken a cue from Reggie Evans and is starting to come to the arena a couple of hours early to get his shots up and work on some other things before the games.

I think Cheeks let him know early on this year that if he defends, is active in the passing lanes, rebounds and runs the floor, and stop jacking all those threes, that minutes for are there to be had. Carney seems to have gotten the message.

Carney had a look in his eyes against Detroit and Chicago that I hadn't seen from him before. It was like he was saying, "Yeah, I am this good. And you haven't seen anything yet." He no longer spends all his time camped at the 3-point line waiting for the ball to come to him. He is moving better without the ball and is attacking the rim more, especially when it comes to rebounding the ball.

This will be a big offseason for Carney. He still needs to work on his handle, his shooting, a midrange game and an ability to finish with his left hand. I do remember seeing him use his left hand on a gorgeous layup a few weeks ago, so I do know that he can. He couldn't have done that this past year, so he seems to be working on it.

For all of you who want Carney traded, what is the rush? The 76ers still have him for 3 more years before they have to make a decision on signing him to a new deal. He's starting to show signs and still has a lot of upside. He's definitely been the best 3-point shooter on the team during this recent stretch.

I think BK's drafting philosophy of late had been to grab the best athlete with the most upside and then teach them the game of basketball. That's a formula that he's used for Sam, Iggy, Lou Will, Carney, Thad and Jason Smith.

It will be interesting to see the draft philosophy of Stefanski and the type of players that he targets in free agency to add to this nucleus.

And as for Carney and the rest of our young players, I say let's show them some patience. We might very well be pleased with the results.

guruvoodoo:

RC - another fine student from Preacher Mo's Total B-Ball Academy! You MUST play D, first and foremost.

Our rotations get SICKER by the game. What's next? Lou Ad goes for a garbage time double-double, with 2 blocks and a steal?

suede:

We always said it was between Willie and Rodney for minutes. But now we may have to change that to Thad and Rodney.Thad is 19 and seems lately teams are taking his left hand away from him, maybe its time to let him come of the bench, not lose any minutes, but take a little pressure off of him. Carney, only if he continues to improve, may fit at the 3 to start games with Iggy at the 2.Wouldn!t do this now, but if Rodney continues to improve, he is 3 years older, and Thad hits a wall, do to defensive adjustments, maybe in 5 games or more it will be an option for Mo.

Anonymous:

Just a few thoughts.

BK is a heck of a drafter. I have to admit that I was one of the first Thad doubters especially early on when he was riding the pine but I'm very happy that we have him.

Carney - I know its only been a couple of weeks since his game has appeared to have improved but if he really develops into a consistent outside threat and a defensive stopper and if Thad continues to develop then this team becomes one player away from contending in the east rather than two players away.

This summer is going to be so interesting as far as what moves Stefanski makes. Who in the regular rotation do you want to get rid of?
I like WGreen (coming off the bench) as I do Lou Will and Jason Smith. Reggie Evans has found a niche and the two Dre's are playing well. If you get rid of Sam who’s going to play center?

The nice thing is that there is no sense that we have to make a move now like it was during the Iverson years. Maybe the best move is to hold on to our money, watch this young team continue to develop and wait for the "right" deal for a stud to come along.

Jimmy Lyman:

I haven't had so much fun watching 76rs games in years....Maybe Mo does deserve that 2nd year, Ed?

Iggy at the two (despite his shooting deficiencies) is really growing on me. I like the match-up probvlems it presents other teams with.

Carney is finally looking like the guy we drafted and I, for one, am thrilled because he does have the attributes we are sorely missing(outside threat, etc.) And the guy is a perfect fit to RUN with our other greyhounds.

seude:

This is the year, over the summer to make our move, us and Memphis are the only 2 players with cap room with us as probably the best option for a free agent or trade for a disgruntled player. Next year, if we wait the competition may be greater which will raise the bidding for free agents . But do agree that we have a good young foundation to build around.

hcatchings:

Morning my Sixer peeps.
Willie and Rodney are playing the remainder of the season for the right to return next year. I think ES keeps one, trades the other. Two weeks ago I would have said both are gone. Just not enough room for all these 2's and 3's. But I give credit to both. They have both played more consistently and shown what they can bring to the table.

It is exactly right that if Carney can develop consistency in his shot, he could very well fill one of our two needs - the 3 point shooter off the bench who also keeps up the defensive intensity. The stretch run and playoffs will be a big test for him to demonstrate his potential to help this team in the future.

Datruth, don't we have Carney under contract only for next year and then he is a restricted FA?

Case:

Forget the Wizards, what's happening to the Raptors? Is the #5 seed a possibilty?

You like Carney now huh? What a difference a week makes!

Ben Franklin:

Assumming we can resign Iguodala and Williams and let Ollie, Amundson, Randolph all go (I'd like to resign Hill to help fill out the roster, but he is not a difference maker for this post), we are generally looking at a roster like this (not saying these should be our starters, just general positions):

C - Sammy, Booth
PF - Evans, Smith, (Hill?)
SF - Thad, Carney
SG - Iggy, Green
PG - Miller, Williams

Looking at our front court, I like Smith and Evans coming off the bench. But we have to get someone who start at PF.
My questions:
1) Would you package Green and Evans to try to get a starting PF?
2) Will Green, Evan and some Cap Space be enough , or do you have to trade Miller?
3) If you trade Miller, who is you PG?

Donte:

While its only been a week Carney's game has seem to improve a lot if he continues to play this way down the stretch and into the playoffs he could turn into a valueable player for us off the bench and he would fill two needs for our team a permimter defender and a 3point shooter giving us more money to spend on a low post scorer. I also love the current starting lineup of the andres in the backcourt with Sam, Thad and Reggie in the frontcourt that lineup gives us a great deal of speed, engry and scoring.

Ben Franklin:

Donte - so what do you do with Green when he comes back?

Dave:

If there were a Eastern Conference Coach of the Year award, Mo Cheeks would win it, right?

I'm happy to admit I was wrong on Carney

I thought he would never become a contributor because he seemed he lacked self confidence at all, he always looked kinda of lost on the court

at the beggining of the season he was all bricks, missed dunks + a memorable airballed free throw at the Madison Square Garden (LOL), now he's a legit NBA player

my point is all the critics he got were deserved and now he's deserving all the praises

it all depends on him, I guess

Ben Franklin:

Sorry, Dave, although I think he probably deserves it, I think the national media would vote either Doc Rivers or what's his name from Detriot.

Bruiser:

I'm so sick of hearing people crying to trade Miller, Sammy, or Iguodala since last year. You have been totally wrong about this team since then and are therefore not a credible or reliable source to give advice to GMs. I have not heard one logical trade proposal! The current Sixers have top 5 athletes/players at each respective position and as they learn to play the game should be able to compete with anyone. In the offseason, sure I would be excited about adding a FA like Josh Smith, Turiaf, Millsap, Diaw, Wilcox, or even Gooden. But for now, I for one will enjoy watching my beloved Sixers play their hearts out this year and take it as far as they can. I will watch and cheer for these kids until their last season breath.

Ben Franklin:

Good point Bruiser. I see how well these guys are playing and I get excited thinking about how they could be even better next year with $10 Million in cap space. But a lot can happen between now and then so we might as well enjoy this team this year.
GO SIXERS!!!

Rob:

Fire Stefanski! Hire Billy King! Hire Billy King! The Sixers should make a move for Lebron when he hits free agency by continuing to improve, and clearing cap space. Thus, making Philly a desirable place for a free agent.

Bruiser:

top 5 was an exaggeration...let me alter that to read Top 10, with the exception of PF but I like Jason Smith and Reggie Evans until we get that low post threat.

JBP:

Ben Franklin, go back to flying kites..just kidding...

Any mention of Herb Hill, even qualified as yours was, is ludicrous.

Trading Reggie Evans...crazy...he brings physical and unselfish play...brings it every night, is still young, shows he can improve his weaknesses through hard work (foul shooting), and adds energy...a perfect guy to bring off the bench...and he is cheap!

Agree we need a starting 4, but would hate to trade Evans.

Bruiser:

Unless we can get true stud what would be the point of trading our primary players who have proven to be the ingredients at the core of the recent surge? The only guys I wouldn't mind losing would be Randolph, Booth, Amundson, Ollie, and maybe Green.

Ben Franklin:

Randolph, Amundson and Ollie will all go in free agency. Booth has a player option he'll likely cash in on.
You guys are right, I hate to trade Evans, I REALLY like him off our bench. I'm just trying to figure out a way to bring in a guy at PF who makes this team a true contender without giving up Miller. Because of everything you mentioned, Evans does have value, maybe even enough to get that last piece we need when packaged with Green and some cap space... but yes, the guy you get in return has to be a young guy who can run, post-up, score and defend.
To get a player like that, you're going to have to give up something and I don't think $10 million is enough to lure that kind of guy in free agency and still keep their team from matching (assuming he is restricted).

KM:

Bruiser, that's essenially been my position since day one, and i've been ridiculed about that a good bit. that said, i think a lot of the trade talk in the last week or so has been much more rational, focused on trying to aquire a younger, cheaper PF with upside. While i think thats a perfectly valid thing to talk about (in contrast with the "trade everybody" talk that used to dominate this board), We're of a mind. Let this thing play out until the last game of 2008 is played, then lets talk about what pieces we need to add.

The improvement lately has surprised everyone, including myself - I saw potential in our guys but by no means thought they'd prove me right this year. So personally, im waiting to see how far they go before i set my mind in stone about the offseason.

I said the other night (partially under the influence of some beer week festivities) that I thought we could be this year's first round upsetter, and even though it seem like a bit of long shot, im sticking with it. Go Sixers.

Anonymous:

Just because people discuss potential trades, Bruiser, does NOT mean they aren't interested in or supportive of the current team. Get off your high horse. Obviously, everyone who posts on this board will "watch and cheer for these kids until their last season breath".

I'm gonna second you again, today, anon. The "you guys aren't real supportive fans because you don't cheer lead enough on a blog" thing is silly.

We all enjoy and support the Sixers, that's why we waste time posting here. There are a lot of people posting here who know basketball quite well, and I find the back and forth very educational.

If you just want to cheer lead, and not discuss basketball in detail, this is probably the wrong place to be.

KM:

The way Carney, Lou and Smith finish the seaon and the playoffs will be very influential in determining our off season plans, I would think.

What if Carney consistently hits shots, what if Lou continues his stronger defensive play and what if Smith continues to be efficient offensively?

If those players perform well, will that influence ES into a more conservative plan? Will he decide he has enough to go the way datruth proposes with a couple role players instead of the big star?

kevin:

How about lets add players instead of trading players.

KM:

Morty, that was essentially what i was getting at. We're still not entirely sure what we have. I do think the recent push - spearheaded by DaTruth - for a younger PF with upside makes good sense right now, but im really curious to see how things shake out by the end of the season. I think - i hope - that the surprises are not over. Personally, I'm looking for JaSmith to really show us something. I was a big defender of his early on, but i had to shut up about it over the last couple months. Looks like he's waking up again, and my fingers are crossed.

That, and i allowed myself a bit of an "i told you so" moment re Miller. Only time i'll do that, everyone. I promise.

Bruiser:

Im not on any high horse, I'm just a long time Sixers fan (from Dr. J, Chocolate Thunder days) who fully supports the current TEAM. I don't mind discussing trades but the truth is that it is so rare when someone actually predicts a transaction that actually materializes. I agree with "Kevin" who suggests "why not add players instead of trading them?" And until the offseason, why not discuss the progression of the kids (Thad's improved handle and up and under moves, Green's shot selection, Miller's leadership, Sammy's health and D, Iguadala's outside shooting and aggressive penetration, Mo's substitutions and lineups, Reggie's Rodman-like in your face D and foulshooting, Sweet Lou's and Carney's freakish athleticism, etc.)? This board is for me just like its for you, but is there anything wrong with trying to stay positive? I think the Sixers would argue that a positive outlook, despite doom and gloom from most observers and prognosticators, is the way to go.

xing:

I for one am quite surprised at Sammy's play against the Spurs. Without him, I say we would have lost with big Tim in the game. If Sam could just be consistent on D, and average on O, we'd have a decent team consistently.

I think a couple guys are improving in their consistency. I believe Carney, Evans and Sam have been more consistent as of this last trip, and I'm glad to see the improvement. Seems like Green was playing better a couple weeks ago, and that pushed Carney forward- the understanding that he'd be gone at season's end if he didn't put up probably helped. I think the bench has really stepped up overall, Sweet Lou being the main catalyst on most nights. How nice is that to see a toned down version of AI come off our bench most nights for us?

Barton:

As I said before, add to our core but try to do it without subtracting from the nucleus we have right now. It is a squad filled with energy and youth with just enough veteran savy. Even if they simply added to the depth at PF through FA, re-signed AI and LWill, give Mo a couple more years and replace the back end of the bench through the draft would give them financial flexibility for years to come instead of doing something bold and risky forfeiting the future. That would be enough for me. Watching this team grow over the next couple of years should be a lot of fun. In the past our great teams were always based on the sure bet Hall Of Famer (Will, DrJ, AI). This squad comes without a great deal of hype. No one saw us coming and it's a nice ride.
However one worry is ES will feel the need to make moves simply to demonstrate that this is his team and that there was a reason for replacing BK. Outside of the KK deal he hasn't put his stamp on the team. I was impressed at the trade dedline that he held back from trading anyone away.
I'm glad that there can be no more trades until this year plays out. Time to sit back, open a frosty and cheer on the boys.
Barton

Bruiser:

We do discuss all that you mention, along with trades and free agency. There have been a lot of positive developments and surprises this year, and none of them have been ignored. If there is negativity and criticism as well, that's life isn't it? We all have eyes and brains, and the Sixers are not world champs as of yet.

Barton:

Agreed that ES might feel personal pressure to make moves simply to make moves. I hope he does not. So far he has restrained himself.

This is what I, and others, argued so many times earlier this year: don't make a move simply to do something, anything. Make targeted moves to improve the team for the longterm, be smart about the cap and always get equal value or better in any trade.

Ben Franklin:

Looking forward to Wednesday when we play Denver and the original AI. I am looking to forward to see how Thad defends against Melo and how Mo tries to stop Iverson.

I hope Mo puts Dre at the SG position to cover AI. Dre can post AI on the offensive end, which would make AI's game much more difficult.

doc:

i agree keeping miller makes the most sense, but eventually we will need a young PG... why not go after mike conley jr. sitting behind lowry? a true PG who can distribute.

we need a legit #4. FA's next year are not promising. sign & trade appears to be the best option for the next year... but i wouldnt be against waiting until the 09 FA class

hannitre:

Is anyone ready to give Billy King credit. It is his team, not Ed's.

Jersey:

Who the hell are we going to trade for conley? I am suprised that the blog know it all KM hasn't hazed you yet.

Jersey:

Just remember what Billy had said, that if had known that he would get fired so fast that he would have handled the draft differntly. His wet dream was for YI to become a sixer. This team didn't become fun until the man who is friends with tory lane got fired. Who the F trades the 30th pick for the 42nd? and then the 38th pick for the 55? What kind of draft philosphy is that?

If we didnt have room for 4 players in the draft then why not keep Koponen, and stash him away in europe for a couple of years. Billy sucked as a GM.

Also I cant remember which paper it was, either the NY Post or the NY Daily news that said Billy King was the leading candidate to replace Isiah. That's fantastic!

Jersey:

Frank Isola of the New York Daily News

Barton:

Hannitre, I definitely give BK the bulk of the credit as to why we are here right now. He and Mo Cheeks of course. Almost every deal he made had the die-hard 6ers fans ecstatic at the time of the transaction. Then age, injury or attitude made the deals fail apart. I have always felt that his drafting was good for where the picks were. His trades usually made sense (never sold on C. Webber) but eventually failed.
But what he left ES with is pretty darn good all things considering. Think about it, it is only a year and a bit since they unloaded AI and CWebb and look where they are and where they appear to be heading. The skies are bright and the cap money is flowing and so is the teams chemistry on both ends.
I see Miller here for the next 3+ years and AI2 and LWill, Carney and Thad for even longer. Add to that at least one or two draft picks should stick for awhile.
I see players in other organizations now taking notice and putting the 6ers on their short list of possible suiters.
You cannot underestimate how much it will mean to FAs, especially the young ones, when they look at the 6ers and see Mo Cheeks as the Captain of the ship. He is a coach that anyone can see will be a coach who will not be arguing with you for no reason or constantly getting in your face just to look tough. He is also a coach who you know will TEACH you the right way to play in this league. It is showing that his way works just as it worked when he played in college and in Philly.
Players such as David Lee and Charlie V have got to be looking at Philly and wondering why not them. At one point we would have taken them all for almost any price but no longer. What was good enough to trade for before may not be good enough any more. Our young guys are as good or better than practically anyone else's youngsters.
Now the have-nots can come a begging, but it would take a knockdown knockout deal to make me deal any of the people we have. They have proved that they can start out a season playing for what is considered a mediocre team at best and not let that define you as a player or a team. Trading for players on bad teams might mean picking up players who are strong in body but weak in mind.
I'm seeing you and standing pat. What ya got?
Barton

Barton:

Heh Jersey,
BK is a vast improvement over anybody left in NYC. I live here and this is where BBall (NBA or College) go to die.
Barton

Matt:

I agree with adding not subtracting from our current nucleus. I see us either going after an athletic power foward that can both score and defend like Josh Smith or a young athletic power foward with some upside. I wouldn't mind seeing Amundson, Booth, Randolph, or Ollie go. Although I do see Ollie coming back, but not as a player but as an assistant coach that can work with our young point guards. I think that we will lose those players in free agency so that would free up some space at the back end of the bench for our draft picks. If Carney keeps hitting the outside shot consistantly as he has been I think he could be the guy we are looking for to hit the outside shot off the bench. If he continues to hit that outside shot and play good defense than one of our biggest holes on offense has been sitting under our noses, but lets not get too ahead of ourselves there is still the rest of the season and hopefully the playoffs to get to. I really like how this team plays. They are like The Pistons meets the Suns. They are a team full of role players that use the team concept and play gritty defense, but they also are a good fast break team that is very fast and athletic.

I dunno, fellas. Half our cap room was created by the Korver trade. And it's my position that giving his 30 minutes to other more athletic, more versatile players has improved the team. Obviously we are much weaker from the arc, but it hasn't seemed to hurt us too much in this 15-4 stretch.

Also, as Dean reminded us the other day, you can't predict what BK would have done this year. Who knows what trades he would have made? Would Miller still be here? BK sure liked to wheel and deal. Would Korver be here? Would we be playing this up tempo aggressive style?

Would BK have fired Mo to cover his own a** after the horrible start? Who's to say.

I have faith in ES but I have to give props to what BK left him to work with, although none of us knew what we had at the time.
Just came from a bar in 'Hell's Kitchen (NYC) and my green was represented by an Eagles hat. The girl to my left was from outside of Scranton and a 'true believer'. Talking to her I thought was back in Pa for a second. There are true Philly fans all around and they are loving what the 6ers are doing.
Barton

Barton:

No doubt that BK looks a lot better than he did 3 months ago.

suede:

I wanted 2 things over the summer, a low post 4 and a defensive big point but L.Will.!s defense is getting better so an upgrade at the 2 for Willie would be my second choice.Players to watch in the tournament [J. Gordon ,Miss, St.][J.Shipp, U.C.L.A.],[C.Douglas-Roberts,Memphis],[B.Rush, Kansas],[C.Lee,W.Kentucky].All these players ,except for Gordon are 6!5" or taller, good defenders and can shoot the 3, and the best thing is they all should be on the board when we pick.

Jersey:

Barton, that is so sad but true. BK would be an upgrade over Isiah, how sad is that?

Also, love the optimism. How fun is this team!!!

Suede, dont like ship. He isn't a 76 type of athlete. Love douglas roberts and rush though. Collison would be sweet running our break with the 2nd teamers

Jersey:

Also, with willie green building up his value we need to deal him in the offseason. He is playing well, but we need an upgrade.

Also, I don't want to ever hear the words
TRADE REGGIE EVANS OR TRADE ANDRE MILLER ever again.

Jersey:

sixerguy, thanks your for the link dude. The sixers dont get any radio cred. over here in north jersey

Barton:

Lots of people think we should add another shooting gaurd with solid D credentials in his resume. The more I see Demarcus Nelson from Duke the more I like him. Like the rest of the 6ers he is a physical freak and he loves to play that full court Duke D. One thing that he is already well schooled in is extending his D to defend the 3 pointer. I think he would be a natural fit both athletically and attitude wise. And he might be a second rounder and cheap. Any opinions?
Barton

datruth4life:

Morty,

The 76ers have Carney for 3 more years if they choose to. He will make $1.65M next year, will be a restricted free agent at $2.5M in 2009 and would receive a qualifying offer of $3.56M in 2010 before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2011.

Carney could be something special in 3 years, just another NBA player or out of the league. It all depends on him and how much he wants to work on his game. The great thing is that the 76ers have the time to find out.

Has anybody watched Seattle that much this year to see how Chris Wilcox's game would fit in with this team?

I've seen the Bucks and Lakers a lot more than Seattle, and that is why I'm partial to Charlie V. and Ronny Turiaf. I do think Willie Green could be moved in a deal this summer though, especially if it helps the team fill that hole at the 4. I don't think Wilcox has an outside game to speak of (he hasn't attempted a 3 pointer in the past 2 years) and all I've seen him do is dunk.

I do know that Charlie V. can get hot and drop 40 and 15 on you. I just haven't seen that type of intensity every game from him.

Turiaf's back to the basket game is improving, and he brings the energy of a Reggie Evans to the game with a better offensive skill level.

I do like Iggy at the 2. He is such a physical mismatch for most players in the NBA at the 2. At the 3, he is sometimes undersized, plus you got a young beast at the 3 who everyone will know starting next year named Thaddeus.

I think Stefanski is going to do some good things. It's too bad we have to wait until this summer before Stefanski has to reveal his hands.

Marc, what is the latest on the 76ers 2nd round pick with Utah that is top 45 protected this year? Didn't BK get some type of extra condition with this pick when he made the trade down with Utah for Herbert Hill for the rights to Krylo Fesenko?

I think the 76ers could probably find a player with this pick, possibly a shooter or a player to stash overseas for a year or two.

Dave D.:

We need to keep Rodney Carney for the future. A lineup with Miller, Iggy, Carney, Young, and Dalembert is impressive. But if the Sixers get a quality big man Rodney could be also be a great sixth man along with Lou Williams. Reggie Evans and Jason Smith are great role players as well.

For example The Mavericks at their best had a rotation of 8 or 9 high quality players. There is no reason to assume the Sixers can't do this.

Willie Green I think has peaked in terms of what he can provide. He's steady but doesn't have the kind of athleticism or potential Carney has to offer.

Barton:

Willy may not haved peaked yet. He is not that far removed from major surgery. You can see the difference in his play from earlier in the year. Just like with McNabb it takes a while to fully recover. Theres no reason to believe that he is 100% yet. There may be more.

raro:

What do you guys think about David Lee? Do we have the necessary chips? Seems like he would fit in perfectly with this group. Both Washington and Toronto lost tonight.. holy smokes!

Barton:

Lee is a younger version of Reggie E, who may actually have even less of an offensive game. He hustles and can definately board, but he is too small to adequately defend against the larger PFs and way too slow to defend the perimeter against the SFs. I don't see him as an upgrade.
If we do add a PF we need one with a back-to-the-basket game and the ability to defend the perimeter. Lee would be more of the same, plus the Knicks would want more for him than he's worth because they have little on that team as far as hustle and heart. He may be a marginal talent but still is a crowd favorite and what else do they have.
The golden rule of 2008, DO NOT PICK UP ANY KNICKS!

bob:

One game out of the fifth playoff spot after a Toronto loss last night. Bring on LeBron.

How about we go after Gilbert this summer?

suede:

Barton, Like Nelson also, he may not get drafted, he could fallinto our lap. Hope E.S. is as good as they say with talent evaluation. Finding a "diamond in the rough" that goes undrafted or a player on another team that fits our style that is unwanted"B.Bass" is the way to fill out the end of our roster. The draft is the easier part actually.Watched about 10 U.C.L.A. games this year,Shipp is a good athlete; had best dunk Iv!e seen in college this year over 2 people and love how U.C.L.A. guards defend.

suede:

Bob, Arenas!s situation and Blatches development may make Wash. low ball Jamison. That would give us another option.

Jersey:

Barton, David Lee is a superior offensive player compared to my man reggie evans. I know your from NY, but we get MSG out here in north jersey as well. What team wouldn't want to have David Lee. Answer, none

suede:

Indiana can!t move Dunleavy[9 mill. per] and have been playing two 3!s at the 2 and 3 position. Would inquire on draft night if W.Green and our #1 would be enough to acquire Granger. He!s a long athlete that can shoot the 3 and even a future pick added may get it done.Love to get the final pieces this summer so they can grow together.

Jersey:

suede, for value alone I would trade willie for granger but please tell me what were going to do with yet another sf? With Dala, thad, and big shot rod we are set there for a long time. We need a pf who can put it in the hole, a sg who can stretch the court, and a young backup pg unless Lou is already that guy.

Time_Out:

Blatche is an absolute stat stuffer. I could see them low balling Jamison.

suede:

Iggy is our 2 next year and with L.Will. having the ball in his hands off the bench Carney could play the 2.I would like Thad coming off the bench next year, he!s only 19 and if , no when, we make our playoff run this year don!t want to put too much on a young player.Look at the effect defensively Iggy has on the opposing 2, think Carney could do the same.
