Postseason Talk Not So Far-Fetched

LOS ANGELES -- It was about a month ago when some overzealous fans were talking about the 76ers playoff chances here in blogsville. At the time it was stated here that any talk about the Sixers and the postseason was extremely premature.
It was written that if the Sixers finished their West Coast trip on March 4 and were in sniffing distance of a postseason spot, then it would be time to talk.
And while things are still far from assured, it’s time to take this postseason run seriously.
The Sixers showed the ability to bounce back after an unsuccessful beginning to the road trip and then had the focus not to overlook one of the worst teams in the league during Monday’s 106-80 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers at Staples Center.
Now at 28-33, the Sixers are not only in distance of a postseaosn spot, but they hold the seventh seed, one game over New Jersey and two over Atlanta.
There are still so many challenges, including two games each with New Jersey (now without Jason Kidd) and Atlanta. The Sixers are 0-4 against both teams.
Yet, this is the beginning of March and the Sixers at least have a legitimate chance at the postseason.
Plus the team’s confidence is high as it’s been all season.
They have won 10 of 13 and while they are still miles away from claiming a postseason spot, they have earned some deserved respect around the NBA.
Maybe they will even get that respect among their fans. On Friday the Sixers play Seattle and it will be interesting to see what type of reception the team receives and how many people come to the Wachovia Center.
When the Sixers were losing seven in a row to begin 2008, the only reason it seemed to come to see Seattle in early March was to watch the likely rookie of the year Kevin Durant.
Instead, the focus should be on the home team.
Of course the road to the postseason is still filled with plenty of potential bumps. After games with Seattle on Friday and Sunday in Milwaukee, the Sixers play six of their next eight against teams with winning records, including twice with Boston.
This won’t be easy and the Sixers can’t afford to take their foot off the accelerator.
There are still 21 games left, which is about one-fourth of the NBA season.
It’s too early to celebrate, but the Sixers deserve credit for getting in this position.
Even beating a downtrodden Clippers team is something that wouldn’t have been automatic earlier in the year. The Sixers were able to forget about their big win in Phoenix on Saturday. As Monday’s performance showed, they took the Clippers seriously.
Now that is focus.
The Clippers came at the Sixers hard early, but eventually wore down. The Sixers forced 18 turnovers and the line that was most interesting belonged to Clips rookie Al Thornton, who had the rarest of double-doubles – 20 points and 10 turnovers.
Most of all, the Sixers didn’t overlook a Clippers team that has now lost six in a row.
“This is the NBA and any team can beat anybody else,” Andre Iguodala said.
That is true and it wasn’t too long ago when the Sixers were that anybody else team.
So hold off patting them on the back, because they don’t want to hear it.
This is a team that is intent on grinding it out. Whether that takes them to the postseason remains to be seen, but the journey is certainly watching at this point.

This was a good win for the team and let's hope it gives them momentum for the stretch. I'm a BK hater, but I do give him props for taking Thaddeus Young over Al Thornton.

The ONLY thing Thornton does it score. That's it. When he gets the ball, he isn't passing to anyone and his first and only thought it gunning. Thad is a work in progress, but he can score as well as defend, post up, pass and rebound. Imagine what Thad is going to be when he is Thornton's age, 24, which will be five years from now. He's going to be a beast.

One thing that I don't like is it seems that Mo is back to playing small ball. Jason Smith hasn't been in the rotation for this West Coast trip and I don't understand why. You have an athletic seven-footer that is part of the future going forward and he isn't going to get better sitting on the bench.

I hate this small ball stuff, especially when you get some size on the bench that needs to get on the floor. Mo is like an addict with that stuff -- he just can't help himself.

By the way, the Lou Will we all know and loved before he took that spill against New York appears to be back. Let's hope he stays this time.

HawaiiRay:

Saw the game on cable and overall they looked great. Puzzled as to how Dalembert managed to score 12 (didn't seem that way watching the game), and he had many passes, rebounds and loose balls roll off his bad hands.

Miller is making fantastic decisions on his passes and - more importantly - getting the ball in the right shooter's hands... he did this almost flawlessly.

There appeared to be far more confidence in all the shooters, especially Green, AI, Lou and Thad. Even Evan got into the flow better than expected.

Pleased to see the great defensive work by Thad, and the contrast in his game versus Thornton's (boy were we fortunate to get Thad on draft day).

With a couple more pieces - a solid power forward, and probably a center (and keeping Miller), this could be a contending team!

xing:

You guys are right. I think BK can be blamed for a host of things, but he has had some good draft picks for the pick#/round that he had, ever since Larry left town. I think we would have more good pieces had LB (King was second fiddle) not given away so many picks while he was still here. The best thing for this team in the GM change is that LB is no longer the consulting "VP" for Ed. I agree that Miller may be the good "passing PG" to develop our young guys for the next few years. He is proving critics wrong with his play.

Ray:

Next game the SuperSonics, This will be tough because you got youth verses youth. Whoever can limit their turnovers will win. Last night's game the only players who really seemed like they wanted to play was Corey and that Thorton dude. I felt like the Sixers were going to win from the start, so I went to bed after the first quarter. Woke up and watched the rest of the game this morning and it wasn't even close. great job again by the young boys, I'm enjoying this ride whatever happens, happens I've really enjoyed watching "Miller Time", so glad the Sixers didn't do the dumb Charles Barkley, Moses Malone...dumb trade thing.

John:

A MATURE win...Sixers did what they needed to do and were relentless in doing it, finishing strong.

Again, MO CHEEKS deserves alot of credit. He is a PG as a coach...quiet but strong when he needs to be, leads by example, has sold the game starts with defense, then rebounding, then fast breaks for easy baskets.

Plus MO is selfless as a coach. He doesn't seek credit, is bombastic like LB. He just enjoys HIS TEAM playing hard and playing smart.

This team is a lot of fun to watch...the crowds will return slowly but surely if they keep this style of play and add the low post presence that is missing.

Few highlights - THAD relentless steal and forcing Thorton into two straight offensive fouls. Also his not feeling he had to have a macho answer to Thorton's early scoring...he bided his time and just played D and let the points come to him...VERY MATURE for a 19 year old young man.

OLLIE is another classy pro. Makes the open shot and the right pass. Leads by example with tough full court D. Note also that Mo has pretty much given up Lou as a PG.

ANDRE MILLER realized he didn't need to score as much last night so he passed more...SMART!

suede:

Seems like everybody is showing improvement from the beginning of the year. Loved that Sam at least attempted to post up in the first quarter, how else is he going to learn. Just like Evans!s enthusiasm seemed to affect Sam in the effort department earlier this year, it seems Thad!s knack for doing the "little things" is rubbing off on Carney.Still think Carney!s shot will eventually become better and than he may really be something with this style of play.

Time_Out:

I can't believe I saw MO playing Miller, Ollie, and Williams at the same time. At this point they dont need Lou playing PG since Miller is doing a good job. Just let the kid score points!

As for Friday's game against Seattle, they better not lose. That team doesnt even know how to win a game. I dont care who's on that team!

"I see no reason why the spirit of the second half of last season can not carry over. In fact, I believe it will...and I believe the Sixers will make the playoffs this year."

Play-offs far-fetched?

Early on, I was among the very few believers.

I still believe.

Go, Sixers!

Dan C.:

This team is becoming more and more fun to watch. I'm delighted at Thad's play, you can sense a star in the making here. I backed BK in drafting Thad over Thorton and his play is showing us why it was the right move. I know the schedule's about to get tougher, but let me stick my neck out for this one...

.500?

george:

Ray. I feel the same way, "ride it out". Whatever happens,It happens!!!!

rzzzzz:

Elton Brand is impressed enough with Thornton to go on record this weekend saying that he can't wait to come back next year and "jell" with the rookie. Could be one less candidate for the cap room hunt.

If Brand does not come back to play this year, he would be insane to opt out of a 16.5 mil payday in favor of free agency coming off an entire year missed to injury.

Datruth:

I didn't catch the game, except for the first quarter, but just checked the box score, and wow did Lou have a big game. 8 assists to 1 turnover, pretty pretty good.
Also, I think Smith's ankle has been keeping him out.

KM:

Datruth - i believe Jason Smith has had an ankle sprain thats been acting up and keeping him out. BTW, not sure if you were still watching by then, but him and amundson came in for garbage time.

Great win, though. Despite all the early season losses, this team hung tough with a lot of real strong teams. They never stopped bringing it and now you can see the maturity starting to come through. They played like a good team should against a bad team - loose, with confidence, and won handily. I was especially impressed that when mo went with his freshmen and sophomores(its only partially a joke, half of those guys should be freshmen and sophomores) at the very end, they kept bringing it and stretched the lead out further. thats the killer instinct i like to see.

And i happen to think that even if we did clear all that cap space and elton brand were to come back for a few games this year, he would still be crazy to opt out. I just dont see why a player with that much garaunteed money coming of an injury would walk away from it so that one, maybe two teams could bid for him. If he's halfway smart, he know that playing one full year will prove his health and increase his value AND he knows that there will be far more teams in a position to make bids (and run up the price) for him next year. Maybe im crazy, feel free to have your i told you so moments if im proven wrong, but im sticking with that story until that day.

Steve:

Marc:

I think its inappropriate to categorize fans who thought rhe Sixers had a shot at the playoffs a month ago as "overzealous".

Could it be that they could see that the young guys were improving and the chemistry developing as a result? And that it could be enough to get the Sixers into the top 8 in the East.

You might want to substitute "foresight" for "overzealous". Otherwise you run the risk of insulting some who post on this blog.

I really would not put it past ES to fill our PF hole with a Euro free agent. If so, such a player would likely be economical as well. Does anyone know some potentials over there? Rickey?

AllphillySports:

i have never played pro ball,so i will leave it to the expert, but i do see the sixers ,playing team ball.we never had that when AI was there

Oliver:

Go Sixers! I was one of the "trade Andre Miller now" dudes; I'm happy to admit that I was wrong.

The only way this team could make me happier is if they went back to the Barkley-era uniforms. Can we get to work on that, please?

Keister:

I'm hoping Sam gets that quad taken care of because lately, he's looked lost out on the court. Hopefully it's just because he's fighting through some injuries but who isn't this time of year? He drove me nuts at times during this road trip w/bad passes, stone hands and shot selection. His body language says something is up. Love the energy given by the entire team. It's a lot more fun watching 6 guys score in double figures rather than one guy score 30 each night. I'll take Thad's overall game right now over Thornton anyday of the week. Is Louis Almundson the 2008 version of Bob Thornton?

Oliver:

And yeah, Billy King was always pretty good at drafting. That was the only thing that he was good at, though, so I'm still not sorry to see him go. Maybe we can hire him back as a scout. Billy?

Paul:

Here is a Contrarian thought.

Maybe the need for a post scorer is less necessary than in past eras. Sure, it doesn't hurt. But looking around the League, it could be more of a luxury than a need.

Duncan has as one of his greatest assests his skills as a passer, defender, and shooter- he is the exception to the rule. He does all but extend beyond the Arc.

D Howard is just a monster beast, who overpowers with boards and dunks.

Amare is now a great shooter, and dunk machine, not a great board guy or defender. A Jeff "production" is overrated as his team has not been much impacted at all.

Most teams now rely on more players crashing the Boards, and reversing into quick transition. While most Euros with height can shoot from the 3, that forces the opponent to bring their Big out, and that is the trend. The Bargnani, Dirk, types. No reason Jason Smith cannot be so molded.

Perhaps what is becoming so clear is that you require at least One Big that can at least, WITH GOOD HANDS, catch a penetratators dish, and finish consistently. Sammy just has awful hands.

But the answer I think is NOT a slower, Big, who can score. The answer may just be the evolution of Thad and Jason, and a backup Center w better hands. This team, as is, most games rebounds well emough.

What it lacks completely, as an uptempo team in the making, are long range shooters, even more than an inside scorer, which is more of a luxury than a need, as the direction of the League seems to be headed.

I think.

Paul:

Guess alot of what I said above translates into the very reason that the greater the player's versatility, the more value a component he will be, in NBA 2008 style.

But some of these versatile ones MUST have, or be taught, to shoot the 3 ball well. If only to keep the floor spread for all his teammates.

Am I describing the essence of Nellie ball? Certainly a key aspect of it, sure.

Paul:

I think people get caught up with the phrase "Small Ball"- whivh is really a misnomer.

Small Ball is not merely a size Concept. Its utilizing 5 players who HAVE the versatility to still perform all the needed roles needed, so as to create a positive collective mismatch either athletically or simply with quickness the opponent cannot handle well.

It may consist of a 5 without a Center, but it doesnt for stretches get "beat" thereby, as this 5 compensates by sharing multiple tasks in a higher gear, on both Offense and Defense.

All the past Conventional styles are just less needed ever since the 3 Ball has been introduced. At least for stretches within any game.

International play really was the pioneer for the new NBA, which was slow to adapt to the less Conventional style, which both Nellie and D'Antoni fully introduced here, and most others have, or are adding, as a necessary repetoire to utilize and defend, more and more.

Jackie Moon:

Sixers playoff hopes medley:

(in unison)

Shoot it up, sink it in; c'mon, Reg, we gotta win!

Sammy, Sammy, he's our man; if he can't do it, Calvin can!

Paul:

LOL JM.

Like the simplicity there!

KM:

Paul, i think you've got a few interesting things going there. It sort of goes along with what i was saying yesterday, that in sammy's place i'd much prefer to have a guy who is maybe less showy in terms of shot blocking, etc, but far more skilled in terms of catching and passing the ball down low. It would be real interesting to have a guy like that maybe come in from eurpoe or, just to throw a name out there, i wouldnt mind a closer look at this Padgett kid - he seems to be real comfortable spreading the ball around from down low. Not sure about numbers on him though. The thing about this model is you'd need to bring in a perimeter shooter to really make it work - either that or hope the threes that williams, thaddeus, and JSmith hit last night are glimpses of the future...

At any rate, its an interesting idea, that i've kind of been thinking about lately as well.

On the other hand, I've seen this DJ White kid a few times, and though havent checked up on exactly how big he is, the kid can definitely play some nice traditional power forward...

From my point of view, the upgrade in perimeter shooting needs to come from total players. That is to say, we need it to come from players who can do more than simply shoot. They need at least one other skill, preferably defense. Since neither Thad nor Dre are likely to end up ace three point shooters, that upgrade needs to come from the SG and PG positions.

Vanilla Thunder:

AllPhillySports is right. AI was a bum. Good riddance.

Anonymous:

Well, that's very true, Morty. So, what do we do (i.e. what does Ed do) in the offseason to improve the team in this area? Moreover, do you think he envisions Iggy and Thad both starting next year (at the 2 and 3 spots), or do you think he'll be looking for a new starting 2 with the idea of bringing Thad in off the bench as the sixth man?

Keister:

Thad seems to have too many diverse skills to keep him on the bench. I know he hit one last night but imagine Thad w/a consistant three point shot...I like Lou coming off the bench like a Vinnie Johnson type to provide a spark. Iggy would be a nice starting 2 if his perimeter skills continue to evolve. Not sure about all this Ben Gordon talk...Does he play defense? What does he give us if he isn't scoring?

I guess I would approach it by adding the best SG or PF I can, and adjusting the lineup appropriately afterwards. Of course, I still would not mind Calderon at PG. And if Thad and Lou are your 1/2 off the bench, that's not bad.

And whichever player ES cannot add through free agency or trade, he needs to draft.

psv:

So, the real questions are: how do the Sixers match up against the Pistons? How do they match up against the Spurs?

Realistically, the title goes through those two teams. The Spurs have won three in the last six years. The Pistons have been there twice in 2004 and 2005, and in the ECF in 2006 and 2007 - and of course, both teams are headed for the playoffs again.

I like how the Sixers beat the Suns, and I like how they beat the Clippers - but we don't know the true identity of either team as they are both teams in transition. That's not to say I'm not enjoying this team - I have been for the last two years; I much prefer team ball than A.I.'s I'll-shoot-you-defend version of basketball.

KM:

I dont think we need to worry about the pistons and spurs yet. Obviously those are veteran championship teams that we can strive to emulate as far as building ours, but even assuming everything falls perfectly into place for us it will be a good couple years before we can legitimately think about a championship of our own.

KM:

By the way Morty, people keep suggesting that Thad could come off the bench next year, but i have to second Keister's comment: that would be a serious waste of talent. The kid can bring it on both ends of the court, and we need to find a way to work him in as a starter. Its just about that simple for me...

oh, and keister, are you sure someone was talking about ben gordon? I missed it if so. I dont want him at any rate.

Well, we can't play Thad against Rasheed at PF for starters. Against the Pistons, instead of dropping Thad from the starting lineup, I would drop Green in order to place Dre on Hamilton and Thad on Prince, or vice versa. I would hope Sammy has a reprise of his last playoffs experience, and Dre shows us why he's worth 15 mil or more. I would use Carney extensively in reserve to defend Prince and Hamilton. I would let Lou run wild, and hope for the best.

KM:

No disagreement about Thad, I love him. But as long as he gets 30 minutes, it's Ok, I guess. Ginobili comes off the bench for SA...

And we would play the Pistons in the playoffs at the moment.

Joe Doc:

I'm just going to throw in my two cents!

John- "A MATURE win...Sixers did what they needed to do and were relentless in doing it, finishing strong."
Well said! I couldn't have said it better.

I must admit I was also a "Trade Miller" guy at the deadline. I couldn't have been more wrong! His presence has helped immeasurably in the growth of the young guys this season and continues to do so. Iggy too seems to have learned a lot from him. Not only in his play but off the court too. He seems to becoming more of a leader everyday. I hope Miller will take a 3-4 year extension. Him leading the team when the rest of the pieces are in place could be a contender.

I don't know whats going on with Sammy (I hope its a nagging injury) but he has looked bad as of late. I couldn't believe his stat line last night. It didn't look like he had that many points. Moving him would be my first move in the off season. Hopefully we could get a starting PF to fill that hole.

I can't see Brand opting out at the end of the year. He has a great pay day already coming and in '09 there will be more teams with cap space. This will only drive up his price.

And now a question for all of you:
Should Ed go out and get a PF to fill the roster spot left open from cutting Giricek?

The team is currently in the 7th seed. There is obviously a hole at the PF position. Other teams are signing players like Cassell and Ratliff. I know none of those guys would come here because our chances to win it all are slim, but why not sign the best available PF in the D-league? He might not have that much of an impact but it at least gives the impression to the rest of the team that management believes in them will help if they can. Its more about the impact on the teams psyche then the impact the player would have in the games. And you never know, maybe we get lucky and find somebody that just needed a shot and can really play.(can anybody say Jamario Moon?) What do you guys and gals think?

Ok! I'm done ranting now.

Paul:

Its downright remarkable that this Sixer team is, what, 11-1 on back end of back to backs. Was shocked to hear that. Regardless of less than stellar on front end of same.

Cant deny how shocked I was to hear this, for a team still below 500. Credit all of em; Coaches and Players for having ability to bounce back after a loss, and props to the Conditioning too.

Paul:

What is Herbert Hill's status? Did he have surgery?

Rick M.:

I was at the game last night. Sure, they were playing an undermanned Clipper team but, i was very impressed with the effort. They are really playing like a team.

Joe Doc:

I think Thad should be the starting SF next season. He has to work on his shooting all off season, but who doesn't.

I hate to say this, but I could see Lou Will being moved in the off season. He's a restricted free agent and probably the 4th best trading chip on the team(behind Iggy, Thad, and Miller). I could see him and Sammy packaged either for a PF or to move up in the draft.

But thats getting ahead of ourselves. I just want to see them finish this season strong!

Trackboy1:

I'm going to try to be more positive, and not let the "No championships since 1983" Philly Sports fan get the best of me:

Could Thad finish the year as first team All-Rookie???

There's Durant, Al Horford and Jamario Moon as locks. But Thad is right there with everyone else. Yes, Luis Scola is coming on strong (he's 27 years old). But Mike Conley hasn't done anything on a weak team and Juan Carlos Navarro has been up and mostly down on the same weak team, even though they are both ahead of Thad on the NBA Rookie Rankings: http://www.nba.com/rookies/rankings.html.

If the 6ers make the playoffs, Thad needs to be first team All Rookie!!!

Any word on Herb Hill?

Joe Doc:

I think I read Hill needed more surgery a couple of weeks ago. I think he had it done then.

Anonymous:

A. Miller deserved his 'player of the week' award and he's played well most of this season; however, I have a hard time rooting for a guy who really doesn't want to be here (as his radio comments to Jody MacDonald yesterday suggested). The term is "mercenary." Cavs, Clippers, Jazz, Sixers--one more and he's officially a journeyman. Please don't get carpal tunnel hyperventilating over a 32 year-old grade B point guard, intangibles noted and factored. He's playing with the relaxed abandon of Freddie Carter on the 9-73 team. What's to lose? He's sure he's the best player (not talent) on a mediocre squad. Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead. I was hoping ES would smartly move him before the deadline for a fresh part or two, but the ol' Bonner and Penn point guard apparently loves the Sixers' present point guard. Some are talking 3 more years. I say, you gotta be kidding me. I know he's a media darling and presently in vogue with fans, but it's time to thank him and turn to the future.

jumpin'johnnygreen:

Oops, "Anonymous" above is me.

rick:

The Team deserves a lot of credit for their play just before and during this road trip. Last night's win was interesting because the Sixers didn't start by playing their uptempo game.

The Clippers were able to force them to play half-court for quite a while, but the Sixers simply executed at a very high level- shooting almost 60% for the game.

That adaptability is a new trait, as is the team's determination to win.

The stats now say the Sixers are a legitimate playoff team- a bottom of the list playoff team. They may be better- we'll have to see how they continue to play because March will determine if they are really a playoff team or not.

Still, they've beaten Orlando, Dallas and Phoenix recently and although they all have their excuses which imply they weren't the best tests, they were all good quality wins.

I was one of the people who wanted them to MISS the playoffs. And this situation is exactly what I didn't want. We are still light on talent, and can't beat the better teams. We also won't get a decent draft pick, because we have a young team of overachievers.

We'll have the same group next year and no great addition through the draft and not enough money under the cap to get us the player we need through free agency. I am concerned we will be stuck in the middle, not good enough to win it all, not bad enough to get the draft picks we need to get substantially better.

I am also concerned that we're not seeing enough of the young bigs. Particularly with Sam injured and not playing all that well, and Jason Smith also hobbled, why NOT TRY playing Shavlik or Amundson?

Even last night, with the Sixers up by over 20 with 8 min. to go, Amundson and Smith got less than 3 min, and Randolph didn't get any.

Cheeks should be trying to win of course, but he should also be making it a priority to develop our young bigs, rather than trying to play with 3 guards.

You can get away with that against the Clippers, but against a team with a decent front line, they'd get killed. We might get beaten anyway, but I'd like to see what we can do when we match size, or put a bigger line-up out than the other team.

A lot of positive talk here now, will that translate into more support and fans at the game? 6th seed is what the Sixers need to be focused on getting right now. That is their only hope for a potential upset in the first round.

Rumour has it the Celts are signing Cassel so he can deal with A.Miller, can you say D.Johnson!!, the rivalry is back!!! Paul, we need a change of pace p.f., one that can allow us to play 1/2 court ball. I agree the league is changing but the Shaq deal shows that even D!antoni is not sure his way can win yet. With Reggie and Thad [after he grows 2", his father was 6!11'(wishfull thinking)] we don!t need a 40 minute p.f., just one that can give us 24 to 28 minutes of physical rebounding and defense and, hopefully, can score and pass out of the low post. Morty, there is an interesting 6!11" p.f./cent. on N.B.A. Draft.net who, coincidently is compared to T.Hill that they say is a late 1st, early 2nd round pick.I think E.S. knows our draft history with foreign players and wants to see them for himself [thank god!!]. I believe the only player B.King went to see oversees was Yi, who by the way is coming of the bench lately.

suede:

Rick, I felt the same as you but Ifeel better wiyh the way the young players are developing. I wanted a 2guard here in the worst way but we are getting about 22 pts. a game from that position now.If L.Will., Green and Carney continue to improve their shooting percentage [42%,46%,40% and going up] we may have the shooters already here. I believe we are 2 players away over the summer of challenging next year for the 3 seed in the east. The draft is loaded with p.f.!s; D.J.White may not even go in the first round. And a future #1 and 10 mill. in cap space may have as much value as 20 mill. in cap space when used in a trade.

joshua:

This is the perfect opportunity for COMCAST to, marketing wise, think out of the Box.

You have a hot, young, Sixer team that has played well out West before HUGE CROWDS.

Use your initiative and offer major discount packages for the next 3 home games. The TEAM can feel the difference, you can learn from it, as I would speculate that Philly fans will RESPOND to such an incentive.

Sure, I could be wrong. But, what is the downside to COMCAST? Incresingly, one cant help but think that Sixer fans ARE excited about its team, so, as Owner, jump on that perception, as any marketing opportunity, and try and lock it in, or find out otherwise.

For next 3 home games. You dont think Marc Cuban, in same position, would have not already done same, yesterday?

Its a perfect setup. Am I missing something?

joshua:

Not thats it is even so, but if you ever had a most obvious "3 GAME LOSS LEADER" foresight, in the interests of the future, it CANNOT be more obvious than what is staring you in the face.

To boot, you have 2 full days to fully implement. Its just too obvious to elaborate upon. Yet, the promotion must start by latest Noon time in Philly. Otherwise, you will miss half the boat.

Pardon me, it is Tuesday, not Wednesday. So, as a final edit, the Sixer Marketing Dept has another full day to see the light.

If there is no new promo, fluidly opportunistically offered Sixer fans thruout the Philly media, by 11AM Thursday the latest, then the Sixer media department will have cemented its utter incompetence to all, and all deserve pink slips.

It is that cut and dry.
Good Nite

Rocky:

P,
that is a $25,000-$50,000 idea, and yeah, its too obvious and so simple, I would be shocked to see it implemented. But, could not agree more, as I see your thinking.

Props to ya. Dont count on it, yet, there is a first for everything?

Joe Doc:

Joshua

I completely agree. This team has a golden opportunity here. Fan interest is higher then its been since Iverson left. The next 3 games are all winnable and if a fan comes out and sees them win they're more inclined to come out again.

They could offer a % off each ticket OR offer something similiar to their "Guys night out" package. Give EVERY ticket a free soda/beer, hot dog, and pretzel. One of my biggest problems with going to games is the food prices. It cost to much to take the family. If I know I have a hot dog and soda included it makes it more bareable. I know they have similar promotions already but those tickets are limited and not in the best areas. For these 3 games they should give every seat the deal. People wouldn't mind spending to buy the next level of ticket up in price, because they know its not going to cost another $75 for snacks.

Rocky:

There would be no bigger turnoff to the Sixer players to return to a half full, drab crowd.

Joshua, you are right. No reason the Ownership cannot provide the means to keep that from occuring. You are spot on. thx dude

joshua:

I return with one last post on the above.
We all know, with diversity of opinions as to why, in such a big market as Philly, that attendance is WAY below any obvious simple answer as to why.

So, if I am the Owner, what better time and circumstance to utilize markeing, promotional tactics to zero in on the root of the problem?

Is it your pricing policy? Is it the Phila fan?

If you change a variable as the Owner, how does the Fan respond? Does he respond?

Cuz, the product, RIGHT NOW, is no longer a viable excuse; for Owner OR Fan. The Arena, and/or its location, is a variable for another day.

OK. A Final Good Night all.
Not interested in fees for ideas, to above poster, give it charity, better yet, to kids as free tix.
But appreciate the thought.

Mill Valley Sixer :

Marc,
This guy Joshua sounds smarter than the entire inept Sixers Marketing Department, based on the Sixers.com content, lack thereof, that is.

Guy sounds sharper than half the Philly media, at least creativity wise. Sixers need creative Executives, at least some who can communicate well.

Joshua, whatever you do, keep it up here with ideas as as you have. Few do as you, with such common sense too.

Others, support the Sixers resurgence. Now.
