Sixers Lack Style But Net Win Over New Jersey

Maurice Cheeks called the 76ers 91-87 win over the New Jersey Nets on Saturday a “grind out game” and that was an apt description.
This was a game the Sixers simply needed for a number of reasons.
The first, was that the Sixers had to quickly wipe away the sour aftertaste of Friday’s 113-95 loss at Orlando. That was a game the Sixers were never competitive after Orlando jumped out to a 17-4 lead.
They needed the win over the Nets to not only reestablish their confidence, but their foothold over New Jersey in the playoff race.
The Sixers are seventh and now hold a six game lead over the ninth place Nets, whose only chance appears to be to overtake Atlanta for the eighth spot.
In addition, the Sixers had to take advantage of playing a sub .500 team especially with the upcoming schedule.
The Sixers play at Boston on Monday, return home to face Chicago and Phoenix and then travel to Cleveland in the next four games.
After that, there is a game at New Jersey and back to backs with suddenly hot Atlanta.
A loss on Saturday to New Jersey, wouldn’t have done much for the Sixers confidence as they face this difficult stretch.
Then again, we seem to be writing each week about the Sixers’ difficult schedule.
And even though the win over the Nets was far from artistic, at this time of the season, style points aren’t needed.
The Sixers won despite shooting 38 percent from the field, while missing 10 of 35 free throws. Willie Green, who has played well for long stretches, shot just 3 for 17 against the Nets.
Yet the Sixers were able to win, something that might not have happened earlier this season when they didn’t play near their best basketball.
So they will take this win with 12 games left and continue to march toward a playoff berth.
Very little has come easy this season and don’t expect the pattern to change over the final dozen games.

Hate to go off topic but K. Love is L.Bird like, he just won!t let them lose.Marc, Willie is killing us defensively, if he isn!t making shots Mo has to get him off the floor. Our defense at the 4 spot is getting better between Smith, Evans and Young.Wouldn!t mind L.Will. getting a start at the 2, especially against the quicker point guards, it would seem with our defensive mentality that Ollie taking some of Green!s minutes would help.

derrickh:

Suede: It's funny you mentioned Love. I was just watching that UCLA game and thinking "I take it all back. I want to the Sixers to lose 'em all so we can get into the lottery to draft that kid." Just kidding. I'd much rather seem them win and make the playoffs, but how perfectly would he fit in with our team next season? Glad to see the Sixers gutted the win out tonight. I, too, was concerned that their confidence would take a big hit if they lost tonight. Thankfully, we don't have to worry about it. I would love to see them beat Boston, but even if they don't, they've got to find a way to stay close. I don't want to see another blowout loss to the Celtics.

Desert76:

This team bleeds Philly heart. The fact that it has taken this long for a city with "loyal fans" to get behind them is amazing. If Philly can shake its next year mentality maybe then will they field a winner. Not since 1983 has Philly produced a winner and mentality molds reality. This is a positively awesome story. Go Sixers!

Statman:

This was a good win, giving the Sixers much-needed experience in close, defensive games. Give Cheeks credit for playing Thad most of the 4th quarter, because Thad was wreaking havoc with his quick hands/feet and did a credible job against Carter until Iguodala switched onto him at the end. There was a very ugly three-minute stretch near the end, starting right after Iguodala's pretty scoop shot, where all seemed lost (5 straight possessions without points). But the defense only gave up 2 points during that time, and Iguodala came up big at the end with 4 clutch FTs and a huge defensive rebound.

I missed the Nets' big 3rd-quarter run, turning off the TV with the Sixers up five and returning with the Sixers down seven. I couldn't believe my eyes in checking the boxscore that Willie Green had done his best John Starks imitation, jacking up 17 shots in 25 minutes and hitting 3 (including an inexcusable 1-8 on 3-pointers). I agree that he has to be put on a shorter leash, because he really doesn't do anything if he's not scoring (and his defense is below-average, as I've noted several times this year). I wouldn't mind a lineup of Sam-Evans-Thad and the two Andre's, which is really one lineup Cheeks hasn't tried yet. Tough to try a new lineup against Boston, though, so I'm just hoping Willie doesn't lose track of Ray Allen a bunch of times in the 1st quarter again. He's been outscored 44-12 by Allen in the last two Boston games (with Allen going 9-15 on 3's).
I'll be at the game Monday, so I'll send my impressions afterward ...

Ken:

Another great win.

They really did gut this one out. That is what happens when you play solid defense in this league. You can win when you don't play your best.

Sammy played great tonight, was altering and blocking shots all over.

AI continues to play off the charts...

Can't wait to see the Boston game, Boston is ripe i'm telling ya...

John:

Have you SAMMY-HATERS noticed!

We all agree he has no post-up game and limited hands...but give him his due...he is playing more physical than ever. He is staying in games, then ratchets up his shot-blocking in the last half of the 4th quarter...very smart!

There is no team in the league that would not gladly pay him $10mm/year for that DEFENSE!

The D all starts with SAM!

H:

Mo should start planning for the playoffs by going back to the starting lineup when Willie was injured (Miller, Iguodala, Young, Evans and Sam) and shortening his rotation to three players off the bench, Lou, Jason Smith and either Willie or Rodney, whoever has the hot hand.

bob:

I don't think you could find a better team for K. Love to join. His passes to start the fast break are second to none. Sometime in this kid's future he neeeeds to become a sixer.

suede:

Love puts everything he has into the game, so much so that he sits out for stretches to rejuvenate. A rotation of Love, Smith, Evans and Sammy at the 4 and 5 would OUTWORK ANY IN THE LEAGUE.Looked at Draft express last night, Pheonix, who loves to trade draft picks , is at #11 right now, maybe something is doable, who knows!! Don!t know how cap space can be used on draft night as part of a deal, can anybody fill me in? Happy Easter fellow bloggers!!

2one5:

Willie has been playin better lately but he kept shooting 3 after 3 in the third yest and his defense on carter was the reason the sixers lost the lead.

I think he gives max effort on D but he is 6-4 and players like Ray Allen and Vince Carter can just shoot right over him. Carney is on such a short leash if he misses one shot Mo takes him out of the game. Green missed like 5 3's in a row at one point last night

Good win for the sixers, bring on Bring on Boston

JYurk:

I wasn't able to catch most of the Sixers last night, but I did catch most of the second half of the UCLA game. Kevin Love is one of the most unique players I've seen. He is kind of like Kevin Durant at Texas last year in the sense that when you watch him play, you just can't think of anyone else that he reminds you of.

The thing about Love is that his game is UGLY. He is slow and methodical and has an ugly looking shot, yet he is incredibly effective. He routinely puts in shots with up to three men in his face. When he takes midrange shots, I feel that same sense of dread I get when Evans or Dalembert take fifteen footers. The difference is that Love's shots usually go in. He's also unique in the sense that he has no hops and is effective in the paint. The guy simply can't jump, yet he averages a double double. He'd look great in a Sixers uni next year. Start working the ESPN trade machine, Ed...

hcatchings:

missed the UCLA game, can one of my blog bruthas give me a little scouting report on Kevin "City of Brotherly" Love? thanks. Happy Easter
By the way, if sixers lose that game last night, tailspin. Big win. Just look at the Rockets. Let's see if the Sixers can guard the three-point line better against C's.

AW:

Hey Marc, have you noticed the +/- differential between reggie evans and thad young? Check out the stats from the links below. It is crazy. The sixers are a MUCH better team with Thad in the game. Thad is 9th in the ENTIRE NBA in the on court/off court statistic.

jumpin'johnnygreen:

Sam "The Pre-Christmas Monster" saw Josh Boone and returned last night with a vengeance. His play brought back memories of Momma Gorgo wreaking havoc on London, England. Wingspan, Elbows, Claws, Leaps & Roars! The populace shrieked and scattered. Buildings crumbled. A city left smoldering in ruins. Momma & Baby reunited. A wrong avenged.

As John Nash said last night post-game, Dalembert's most impressive growth area this season has been in his ability to remain out of foul trouble and on the court.

Iguodala took the Jefferson/Arizona connection and past pastings, smartly turned it into a challenge match; was focused and adrenaline-fueled, played well.

Gotta hand it to 'em: youngsters Smith, Young & Williams nicely contributed in a grind-it-out W.

sfw:

John, Where was Sammy Friday night? Seems like he has been consistant about being inconsistent. You can almost predict which teams he will under perform in. Still prefer him to 2/3's of the centers in the NBA. Just need to pick up his slack against some teams(Orlando, Lakers, ?).

KLOVE. Been in his corner all year. He'll be moving on up in the Draft. Top 10! Out of our reach but we do have to keep winning.

Happy Easter to all!

rick:

Both Sam and Iggy had big games last night, and revealed how important they were to the team. While many of the others were having sub-par games. Iggy scored like a one, and took over the game at the end. Sam blocked shots, and rebounded and kept the Nets from getting to the basket.

The nice thing about the Sixers, is that if one player isn't doing well, there's another one on the bench waiting to get in. Willie seems to be pressing lately, I'm not sure why. But Louis Williams came in and gave us a lot of production at the end.

Yesterday someone was knocking a few of the players and then asked why I was so enthused about a .500 ball club.

My answer is that most .500 ball clubs don't start playing at an .800 pace in the last 2 months of the season! You have to understand that the Korver trade forced Cheeks to play the younger players behind him. At that time, they weren't ready, and the Sixers paid the price by losing a lot of games. But each loss taught the young players what to do and what not to do.

Look at who was playing in the fourth quarter last night to win the game. A rookie in Thad Young, a 3rd year player in Louis Williams, a 3rd year player in Andre Iguodala.

All of them have come a long way along with Jason Smith.

There is no substitute for experience in helping one to learn and this team has learned how to play and how to win. They still have a ways to go, you know that both Williams and Young will continue to develop into top 10 players at their positions.

Unfortunately, the Sixers for whatever reason, have not developed their bigs in the same way. Dalembert is what he is, which is fine, but we need to pair him with a power forward who can score- Reggie really hurts the team's offense, because of his ball handling skills, or lack thereof.

Cheeks should be finding ways to get Shavlik Randolph and Louis Amundsen and Herbert Hill into games. We will never be able to compete with the better teams without a better front line. I don't know if any of these players can do the job, but I know that Shavlik already has more post moves than Sam!

If our current front court was sound, I wouldn't complain, but it is abundantly clear that while our defense and rebounding is adequate, our scoring is not. The Sixers do go through periods where they are flat and unable to execute their offense. That even happened last night in NJ. Having a 6' 10" player in the post to throw the ball into would really help.

Play them and find out what they can do, Mo! Unless you do Ed won't know where to focus on in the draft. Why waste picks and trades to get a player when we already have one on the bench who (can?) do it?

kevin:

The nba draft is so far away, can we just enjoy this season first? IF kevin love don't have an outstanding worker out or get worked out by another player. The sixers management will not draft him. So why get your hopes up over one player. Plus, can you really see him running the floor with thad on the fast break. I don't thinks so.

sfw:

Kevin, he doesn't have to run the floor. His outlet will start the break and he'll come down for the secondary break and hit the jumper or fill the lane for a power move.

suede:

Harvey, disagree with Jyurk; he does have some hops, blocked 7 shots last night and I saw him win 2 jump balls last week against 2 7!ers[ Lopez twins]. His middle name is Wesley,[ Unseld was a teammate of his father and good friend ]; his game is similar to Unseld, who in an era of dominate center play, handled the position well at 6!6" to 6!7" tops.An Unseld moment; the year we got McGinnis I was at a game and George, who was built like a tight end, ran into Unseld and literally bounced off and on to the floor, I was shocked .When you look at the effect D.West and Boozer are having at the 4 position at barely if any over 6!8", Love will step right in and be a factorGimme some love!!

sfw:

Love's biggest issue is his conditioning. Too much baby fat. Needs a nutritionist / conditioning coach. I'm sure when he gets that fat contract he'll get one.

sfw:

Back to the Sixers. Not sure of the schedule but just love to see them win more than 50% of their games.

sfw:

suede, later! Happy Easter!

suede:

A.W., love the way Thad,"does the little things", when we add another scorer at the 4 spot, Thad can get even more minutes than he does now because we won!t need as much scoring from the 3 position.

geeksavant:

Suede:

Thad will score. He is incredibly efficient in his offensive game, shoots a ridiculous percentage for a rookie 3, and seems to get basketball-smarter every game. In two years he's going to be a stat-sheet stuffer along the lines of Andre I. The kid is sick...it's not that he's scoring 20 a game like Durant, but it's how he scores exactly as much as he needs to, while doing everything else. I would love to see him fill out with a bit more muscle, may help him on the boards. His rebounding has been a little inconsistent.

That being said, I am diggin' Kevin Love, but I don't know if he fits the whole Sixer "run like mad" thing. And there's no way he's going to be available when we pick. Along those lines, what do people think of Tyler Hansbrough (probably a more realistic pick at the 18-20 spot)? I know he's also not a super athlete, but he plays with everything he's got every minute, and I love that more than anything about a player. It was that, more than anything else, that I loved about Iverson all those years. Not that AI and Psycho T are in any other way comparable, of course...

jesse:

I want the sixers to draft..... Serge Ibaka, that guy is a freak of nature athletically, he would fit in great with sammy d in the blocks

suede:

Geeks., Hansbrough might be staying, not sure he scores much more than Reggie, not a great post up player, shows the ball to much.U.C.L.A. runs more than the Sixers, Love starts it all. I think Thad will be an 16 to 20 pt. scorer down the road, but I!m talking next couple of years when, hopefully, we will be making a deep run in the playoffs.Possible way to move up in the draft; Carney, our #1 plus future #1 to Pheonix for their #1 [currently #11, if Love is still on the board] and Diaw. Pheonix saves approximately 8 mill. in cap room plus finally gets the athletic defender back they lost in Marion deal. Just a thought.

jesse:

Serge is raw, but if there is one thing gathered by the progression of Thad and JSmith, it's that Mo is a tremendous teacher. Serge Ibaka is 6'10, runs the floor like a guard, and has a higher verticle anyone from the last several draft classes....He's long and lean like Sammy d, and could pose a matchup problem with his guard like skill set...oh, and he's got a set of hands (sorry Sammy), understands to keep the ball high on put backs, check him out... if the sixers draft low, outside the lottery, they should give him a look

jesse:

I have a proposal, we should all raise money, so the sixers can hire Hakeem Olajuwon, to teach sammy d some moves so he can better use his atleticism... or atleast ONE go to move...anybody with me?????

John D (in Miami):

Hey dudes, greetings and Happy Easter from Miami, the black-hole of sports!

Have luckily been able to catch ever sixers game here on miami beach since I moved down two sundays ago and what a ride it's been. The team is playing with incredible energy and they don't show many signs of slowing down, which is great. If you can run, you can be competitive at any level against any team.

An earlier poster brought up a lineup of sammy/evans/thad/Iggy/And and fwiw, I think that lineup may give us the best opprotunity to win games that dont turn into shootouts. Evans is probably the best person on this team to neutralize garnett/wallace. I have my fears against playing orlando in any playoff series given their incredible shooting...and howard, the man-beast.

Also currently watching the Nova game on TV, any ideas on where scottie reynolds would go in the draft? Would he be worth taking a flyer on? Kid looks like he could score a ton. Or is he just a carbon copy of sweet lou?

As always, thoughts?

iSPEC:

I couldn't help but notice how sluggish our Sixers looked last night. They are tired. 10-35 from the line displays the fatigue so present.
Where is Thaddeus? There is a chemistry with Thaddeus and AI that needs to be on the floor from the start. Put Willie in the 6th spot and Carney at 7.
Sam continues to improve.
AI's jumper continues to amaze me. Nothing but net much more often.
We just need a jolt. A win against the Celts would be something but it's not happening. I am concerned about this team right now. NJ played horrible and we barely got by them.

Barton:

Suede,
Next year if Thad starts each night he should reach 15 points a game. The only reason he won't get more will be because of PT. there are just too many athletes on this team noit to give them a few minutes a night.

Jesse,
Hakeem would be a nice coach, but I wonder if any of his moves could be taught to Sammy or anyone else. I remember Magic as coach and he was depressed because he was never able to teach anyon (Nick VanE) to play like him. There is a reason why some players become HOFers. Their abilities are often so unique that even GOOD players can't duplicate them. Another example, Isiah Thomas. He could play, but who has he taught anything to. Marbury? Robinson? Sammy with Hakeem moves would be something special though.
Happy Easter one and all.
Barton

geeksavant:

Unfortunately, Sammy wasn't able to learn all that much from Moses Malone...although it's obvious that about 90% of his problem is 100% mental, to coin a phrase. When he shows up to play, keeps his head in the game, and maintains his level of intensity, Sammy does just fine. Would I rather have Dwight Howard? Of course. Would I rather have, say, Erick Dampier? Not really.

Which leads me to Serge Ibaka. Freakish athleticism is a beautiful thing, but I think someone on the floor has to have some muscle. Having a scrawny 4 and an only slightly less scrawny 5 is a good way to get killed on the block. As usual, size is going to go early in the draft, at least quality size (read: Kevin Love), and we end up with either a mid-level player, for whom we hope for a decent contribution (read: Jason Smith, or someone at that level...I like Jason, but he's got a ways to go before he's anything more than a nice rotation big, which isn't a bad thing for a 21 pick), or a project with nice athleticism, for whom we hope the game of basketball will eventually make sense (read: well, Sammy, unfortunately).

As much as I generally agree with the philosophy of building through the draft and growing the team together, maybe in this case, rather than spend players and draft picks to get draft picks, we could use them instead to get a player who fits the system? I admit in this case, the chemistry seems to be the thing here, and chemistry is fragile, but I don't know who, other than Michael Beasley, meets the requirements for what we need at the 4 in the draft. And we're not getting Michael Beasley.

Yeah, like it's up to me...but I enjoy the armchair GM game as much as anyone. Now I'm off to click that link to www.BellyFatIsUgly.net that just came in on my email window (I'm not kidding...these targeted ads are hysterical). I've been sitting here too long, and my wife is starting to kvetch, and my kid is giving me chest pains just watching him run around. Hm...my kid is high-energy...ok, so he's short, and not terribly coordinated...but on the other hand, he's 2, and therefore automatically has Tremendous Upside Potential.

Ray:

I'm in Hawaii for the next two weeks staying at the beautiful Outrigger Luana Waikiki studio suites hotel but I was able to cacth the fourth quarter of the game. Iggy and Miller have really stepped up their game. But what I would like to know is who made up this schedule up? Then again I really don't mind win or lose in the long run this tuff schedule will produce better players.

Barton:

Ray,
It's funny when you mention the schedule. I live in NY and a friend of mine keeps on trying to convince me that one of the main reasons the Knicks suck so bad is because they played such a hard schedule early on. We all know that their problem is that they had to actually play any schedule at all.
I'm glad the schedule is tough down the stretch because we will not be playing Minn, Memphis, Seattle, NY or any of the other dregs. And even though we are in the weak east we shall be in the lower half of the bracket so we have to be prepared to play teams with better records not worse. This schedule will better prepare us for the playoffs.

Yeah Love would fit in, but his lack of athleticism may be a problem. You look at Beasley and there is little doubt that he will be very good on the next level because he combines skill with natural freakish athletic ability. Love has BBall skills but just about every player in the NBA has as much or more athletic ability.
Guys like Pearl Washington, Walter Berry, Pinckney and Lloyd Daniels were great before the pro level because they were so crafty and could always manage to get their shot off but on the NBA level they ran into better athletes who they were no longer able to juke. Andre Miller being the exception to the rule. You can't teach things like height and athleticism. You can teach players how to play smart team oriented basketball. Just look at the terrific work that Mo is doing with his bench full of athletic freaks.

Way to go NOVA! Making us proud.
Barton

datruth4life:

Suede,

I have seen K. Love play a couple of times this year and he does have that extra "it". I think he will be effective at the 4 spot in the NBA, but I wonder if he could guard the Stoudemires, Kevin Garnett's and Dirk Nowitzki's of the world.

I think his rebounding and outlet passing are NBA caliber right now. Since Ed has spent some time in Europe, I wonder if he would draft one of those 7-foot euros, like Semih Erden (7 feet, 250 lbs.) of Turkey, who has skills and could play the 4-spot.

A fall back plan that I would consider if I'm the 76ers is taking Roy Hibbert if he is still there when the team drafts. Because of Sam's foul trouble, we still need a backup for him that could allow the team to keep up its defensive intensity when Sam is on the bench. Jason Smith and Reggie Evans aren't centers, though they play that spot when Sam is in foul trouble.

Hibbert would mean that the 76ers would always have a shot blocker in the lane and someone to contest shots. Also, this would allow us to spend at least the next 3 years finding that PF since the center spot would be well taken care of between Daly and Hibbert.

Besides, I don't think there will be someone available where the 76ers will be picking who can come in and start at the 4 spot in this draft. That's why I think this year's pick and that $10M to $12M in cap space will go toward getting that PF.

Any thoughts?

Barton:

datruth4life,
I'd rather have Thabeet than Hibbert. The one thing RH has going for him is that he is very very tall, but his mobility and athletic prowess are underwelming at best. He is one of those rare cases where staying in college may have cost him a lot of money. Had he come out last year he would have been drafted higher than he will this year. So yeah there is a chance he will be there when we draft but he could mbe another Stipanovich. Tall and forgettable.
Thabeet is even taller with limited O but a beast on D. RH seems so slow and stiff that I think he would be a foul machine against the quickness of the NBA bigs. How can you be that big and not have one rebound or assist against Davidson. And after four years it seems like his O may have gotten worse. The second Lopez brother might even be a better selection if he comes out.
Curry on the other hand may be an even better shooter than his dad and that is really saying something.
So, next up Boston. It's time to look the Devil, the Celtics straight in the eye and not feel like their kid brother. Of course I won't go all Jim Jones if they lose but really compete but I won't be completely satisfied because we should be past that point by now. I know KG, Allen and Pierce shall probably get theirs but we have to beat up on the rest of their squad and I believe we have the players to do exactly that. They just have to believe in themselves and their ability to beat the best. I do. Hopefully they do too.
Barton

KM:

Drafting a Hibbert or maybe a Thabeet to back up sammy could work. Seemed like Ed was targeting a guard with the 1st pick though, based on his recent interviews? I wouldn't mind getting a good defensive guard who can hit jumpers and grabbing DJ White in round 2 - Im still of the opinion he could be our 4 guy...kinda reminds me of reggie evans with polished finishing moves in the post...

Pwhitty, so Mcgee alot last year while watching Fazekas alot, real good athlete. Datruelife,I think Love would cover some centers and S am would cover the opposing p.f. in certain situations. Ex. [Love on Shaq, Sam on Stoud. ]Ibaka is intriging, another freekish athlete.

plastic:

gimme some Love or gimme some Jamont!

suede:

S.F.W., Love is, in the words of G. Jefferson, movin on up on Draftexpress.[#8]

Datruth:

Agreed that given where we will pick, a PF is unlikely. If the team doesn't move up, we'll probably draft a guard of one type or another. I think a #1 pick is pretty high to draft a backup center, a 3 point shooting guard would be a higher priority than that.

Barton:

Does anybody have an opinion on Dorsey at PF? Can he fall all the way to our pick and does he have a back to the basket game? I watched him play D yesterday and that was impressive. I have seen a couple of possible drafts and he was never listed for the lottery but how far down will he fall?
Barton

suede:

Barton, My brother, S.F.W., watched the game with me yesterday and he thinks Dorsey is a stiff.I think yesterday was the exception rather than the norm for him.He is very robotic offensively, and consistant effort is an issue. He is a physical specimen but I don!t think he will ever reach the level of R.Evans. Can you say a "poor man!s" Ben Wallace.

sfw:

Based upon yesterday's game Dorsey looked like a combo of Theo Ratlif and Ben Wallace. Looking at a handful of games seems to me he has concentration and effort issues. Smelling the NBA draft and maybe a title has provided some focus to his game.

Anonymous:

DID ANYONE REMEMBER WHO BROUGHT THESE YOUNG 76ERS IN AND SEE HOW THEY ARE PERFORMING. NOT THE NEW GM

sixerzguy:

Morty,

I'm here to eat crow re: Willie Green. That performance against the Nets was unfathomably horrid. If this were baseball, I'd demote him to single-A. I'm back to being a Willie basher. Kevin Ollie in the starting lineup would've hurt us less. I can't believe I'd defended him so fervently, yuck...

The same thing that applies to Carney should apply to Willie - if you're not feeling it, do something else to help the team. In his case, he should be a kick and drive guy.

Mo's done a great job, but there's one thing I've got to nitpick at: he'll change up the starter at the 4 spot to match up better with the other team, but he won't mess with Willie at SG. Why? The Seattle game was the worst example: he must've known coming in that Durant was playing SG for the team at the moment, yet he still matched up Willie on him. It didn't last too long, but the 6 points Durant scored easily then could've haunted us later if it had been a close game.

On the other side of the spectrum is what Iggy did. Not only was he great on offense, he shut down Vince and RJ. People keep overlooking his defense, which contributes mightily to the final score of games.

Lando:

This season is one reason why I'm a B-Ball fan,
and a Sixer's fan in particular. I was laughed at when I predicted the playoffs at the beginning of this season. But I saw something
in the last part of 07 season that gave me hope.
This year, it's a pleasure to watch the young
guys 'earn their spurs'. All I can say is enjoy
the moment fans. Enjoy the enthusiasm, unselfish
play and hope for the future. They will 'grow up' soon enough.

Barton:

I just took alook at Dorsey's foul shooting and it made me long for Reggie Evans. With his lack of offense I can see why he is down on the list. He can be someone elses RE, we already have one.
I hear good things about Thompson from Rider but haven't seen him play. Is he a big fish in a little pond or can he play with the big boys?
Barton

Sixerzguy:

Lol, man. You nailed it by wondering about Mo's long leash for Willie. I just don't get how in the world he allowed Willie to shoot 3/17 and 1/8 from? What has Willie done in his career to earn that type of respect?

Personally I like starting Dre at SG, Thad at SF and working the match ups at PF. It's a better defensive lineup, and not much of a offensive drop off from the lineups where Willie starts and Thad does not.

I also agree about Dre, great game by him. And his defense has really impressed me this year. Previously, I thought he was overrated defensively, but not this year.

Mike:

I dunno if this was the most significant win of the year, it really doesnt matter. The comeback in Chicago was a confirmation that these guys just wont give up. ORL was any teams periodic stinker, although they appear a bad matchup, sure.

Props to Iguodala; few have the size heart this dude has; and no one has his freak athleticism.
Sometimes I wonder whether he is even focused on the FT Line; then remember he plays 44 mpg in games that come down the stretch, and delivers, his way. If he effs up at the FT Line, dude comes back and compensates in some other way. Total freak, and a winner.

Great mentor for Thad and Lou.
