AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Coach Maurice Cheeks announced that Thaddeus Young will start at the small forward position tonight against the Detroit Pistons in place of Willie Green, who is out at least the next two games with a low back strain..
That moves Andre Iguodala from small forward to Green's shooting guard spot in the backcourt with Andre Miller.
Reggie Evans will be the power forward with Samuel Dalembert at center.
Miller, Iguodala and Dalembert have started all 64 games for the Sixers.
Young said before the game he won’t prepare any differently whether he is a starter or reserve.
The Sixers are 10-5 in games Young has started.

So Mo chooses to start the game with our defense heavy lineup.

This could be one low-scoring affair. I think they could keep it close, but who will step up at the end?

Looks like Reggie is rubbing of on J ason, hard screens and jumping out for steals, what did Denver and Seattle not see. What a valuable role player.

I was realy getting upset with Dalembert's mistakes at end of game. We were lucky to win. Detriot did not shoot well albeit Wallace was hot. Our effort was outstanding. It was a great win and good experience for Lou and Carney. I hope Miller is not seriously hurt, but backs are tricky.

1-1 against the top two teams in the Least ain't too shabby! Hay Marc, any chance we could see Iguodala, Carney, and Thad together in a starting lineup?

Starting Thad and Iggy makes us a smarter team in the 1/2 court.Maybe Carney can be the new Korver.

Actually, Im not surprised Sixers beat Detroit at all.
TRUE STORY:
I'm homeboys with Sheed Wallace. I live in NYC, he invited me to see Detroit beat the Knicks last week. After the game we were standing in the stands talking, myself, Sheed, Rip Hamilton, Theo Ratliff and a few others. After telling Theo he needs to come back "home" to Philly, I brought up Sixers play and instantly every player there shook their head in agreement that Philly is tough and no easy win. They all said how impressed they were. Understand something, Sheed will tell me in a minute if the Sixers suck so they werent just being nice. This team is legit, it's time we all accept it, enjoy and.....apologize to Billy King, maybe he did know something about talent after all....

they are doing a GREAT job of not turning the ball over and playing within their abilty, especially the younger players. sammy sometimes leaves me scratching my head.

This is what I was thinking:
PG: Miller/Williams/draft pick
SG/SF: Iguodala
SG/SF: Carney
SF/PF: Young/draft pick/FA
C: Dalembert/draft pick
With Iguodala, Carney, and Young we have three super athletic players who are great finishers at the rim, are getting better at shooting, and good (maybe even great?) one on one defenders. I don't see why the three of them couldn't be played at the same time. Well, actually, I don't know how this team would work in the half court, but a fast-paced open court game? pretty sweet setup I think. Run with the best of them. And this is the lineup I use in NBA2k8...

cheeks has been doing a great job coaching unselfishness. the 6ers have also been playing better halfcourt offense. against boston the perimeter defense was suspect, but at detroit tonight they closed out well and grabbed the rebound.

dbeas, good to hear from you.
It's great that the Sixers are doing things the proper way. If they get in the playoffs and Denver doesn't what a trip. The GM in me is disappointed(love those high draft picks) BUT can't help but root for this group of good people and players.

I give credit where credit is due. Rodney Carney played a helluva game tonight...quite frankly, he really got screwed on that foul call (the block on I forget who) with a minute left in the game. Nice work Rodney.
This game should convince everyone that Andre Iguodala should not and cannot go anywhere. He is the heart and soul of this team and is improving by leaps and bounds every year. Also, for those who say Reggie Evans is no more than a 15 mpg player...wake up. He is a phenomenal 25 mpg intimidating bundle of energy off the bench. If I were the Sixers, I'd hire Buzz Braman this summer to work with Reggie EVERY DAY on his free throw shooting. If he could knock down 70% instead of 45%, he'd be that much more valuable. You'd remove the one flaw from his game.
I was cheering from start to finsh...great win!! GO SIXERS!!

Harvey, good numbers, loved the rebounds and blocks,he doesn!t have to score ; a movie line can sum him up best;"a man!s got to know his limitations". He challenged a lot of shots.Just does tjhings that irritate , fighting with teamates for rebounds and trying to do things with the ball that he isn!t capable of. But gave major effort and that is all we ask.

Dean, good preview of next year with Thad and Iggy at their true positions. Teams that let us run will pay dearly and teams that don!t we will fight tooth and nail. 12 PTS. AND 11 reb. we will take from our starting p.f. next year.Green, Williams, Carney and J.Smith off the bench should, by next year be able to outscore most benches in the league.

Willie Green's injury forced Mo to play the correct lineup tonight. I've been saying all year that the only way we can play Detroit is with a big lineup. Usually, we have Hamilton shredding Green, and Iggy is too small to stop Prince. Tonight Iggy shut down Rip, and Thaddeus did the same with Prince. At the half, those two were a combined 3-12 for 6 points. Prince did a little more in the 2nd half, when some other players were guarding him-- but the point is we can match up with those guys, but only if we play a big lineup against their starters.
While I love the way the Sixers are playing, and Mo deserves a lot of credit for that, he is simply clueless when it comes to rotations and matchups. It's like watching a blind man playing darts. Please Ed, get Mo an assistant coach who can complement Mo on his glaring weaknesses.

Larry, it amazes me how Nellies players buy into him shuffling lineups depending on who they are playing. With all our versatile players Mo should be able to do the same.

Setting his starting lineup shouldn!t be difficult, its during the game that the true chess masters show their stuff. Don!t know if Lynum is the answer but who else would be available. Love to bring Carril in for the 1/2 court offense , loved how Sacramento used to play.

Lynam just sits there like a bump on a log. I know he had health issues last year (does anyone know more specifically what was wrong with him?), and he still does not look well. Just like Andy Reid is a good head coach, but has some glaring problems e.g. clock management, Mo needs help in some areas of the game. I go to every game and I never see the assistant coaches helping out, either talking to Mo or the players. At a minimum, we need one strong assistant who can do the things that Mo apparently can't.
