New occupant for Bootsie's

The space at 38 S. 19th St. that was home to Bootsie's will become an Indian restaurant called Ashoka Palace, specializing in northern Indian cuisine, says owner Kinder Jit Singh.

It's two, three or four weeks out, he says.

Singh used to cook at Taj Majal at 19th and Chestnut and Passage to India at Juniper and Walnut.

This is excellent news! Now, if Minar Palace would re-open as well.

I walked past Bootsie's a few months ago - Bootsie was sitting at one of the outside tables. He seemed to be very sad. Although it was early Saturday evening, the place was completely empty. I think the original concept was pretty cool; too bad it wasn't given the time to fully develop.
