Starr in the Sofitel

Stephen Starr tells Food & Drinq that he's signed a letter of intent to re-create the restaurant and the lobby bar in the Sofitel at 17th and Sansom Streets, now known as Chez Colette and La Bourse. Until the deal is official, though, he would not divulge name, concept or opening date.

Besides the Sofitel, here are the known Starr projects in the works:

1. Parc, at the Parc Rittenhouse at 18th and Locust.
2. A redo of Washington Square; concept TBA.
3. A gastropub at 706 Chestnut St., in the space that was Blue Angel and Angelina.
4. Chelsea Prime steakhouse and Teplitzky’s coffeeshop in the Chelsea hotel in Atlantic City.
5. A steakhouse in Fort Lauderdale.

Starr also confirms that he and Marc Vetri have discussed a joint venture -- this was some time ago, he adds -- but both agreed that Vetri was too busy with Vetri and Osteria.

Sweet. I can't get enough Stephen Starr.

doc, new york ny:

sounds great, but is it? i mean starr is the dean of philly restaurant culture, but perhaps this is overkill. i mean, he's the owner of every restaurant in town. perhaps we need someone with a different perspective for the redesign of the sofitel bar.

that said, the buddakan in NYC is very nice. haven't eaten there, though and a long time since i ate at the one in philly. have to plan an evening out at the NYC one as it's a bit closer to home.

jarrod long:

having lived in philly over ten years ago, i appreciate watching the philadelphia restaurant scene grow. i am still miffed, by the lack of more exxon-mobil 4 and 5 star restaurants in the city. boston, a city with less people, has more 4 star restaurants!. Welcome back neil stein! A return of MEALTICKET?
