Dalessandro's changes hands

Heard enough about Joey Vento and his sign?

Here's something else steak-related to chew on:

Dalessandro's Steaks, the landmark on Henry Avenue in Roxborough, was sold this week -- and for the first time since 1959, it's now outside of the family.

New owner is Alexandros Apsis, who also has two other steak shops: Pagano's (7617 Ogontz Ave.) and the Explorer's Den (2160 W. Olney Ave.).

Apsis' manager, his cousin Alexandros, says he plans to clean the place up but won't change the food. The "closed Sunday" rule will remain for the foreseeable future.

Come to think of it, Dalessandro's has a sign behind the counter reading, "If you are grouchy, irritable or just plain mean, there will be a $10 charge for putting up with you."

Somebody call the HRC.

Shaz:

Just the mention of the name of this place gets my mouth watering. I hope the recipe stays the same!

SH:

A piece of advice for the new owners:

DO NOT CHANGE A THING!!!

MMH:

Hands down, the best cheesesteak in the city. Even better than the South Philly boys. Please don't change a thing!

CAS:

If you cut down on the meat, grill the onions differently, anything, I'm going across the street to you know where. But consider adding a deep fryer.

DEW:

I'm dying to know if the first Apsis cheesesteak has rolled off the production line, and to hear the follow-up commentary. I'm not going to lie I RARELY eat cheesesteaks, but when I get the craving, it's over the hill I go. Keep the quality. Keep the low-brow vibe and minimalist decor. Oh and the sign: it should stay too.

Ronda Freeman:

I have been going to this place for years, please keep the way you make the steaks the same! The onions and the mushrooms are the bomb! We break our behinds to get there!!! And it's a shame your not open on sundays!!!!! Better than Pat Steaks anyday!
