Harusame rolling out

harusame.jpgSunday 3/23 marks the opening of Harusame (2371 Haverford Rd., Ardmore, 610-649-7192), which had been Sapporo. It's just off the corner of Wynnewood Road and Haverford Road, across from the train station.

Owner Christine Li told me that she recently sold her eight restaurants in Raleigh, N.C., and headed north because Japanese cuisine had become more popular in the Philly area.

Chef Tommy Fok (at left) claims Delaware's Mikimoto and Devon's Shangri-La on his resume. Dining room is clean and contemporary (highly polished tables, much wood). Sushi bar has six seats, dining bar has room for about 10, and there's a fair-size fridge with beers to go. Menu has the sushi/sahimi/roll/hand roll/bento box lunch selections you see everywhere -- with the exception of donburi (rice-bowl dishes). Prices are average; if you're judging price by rolls, they go from $4 for tuna and salmon rolls to $12 for lobster tempura.

Hours will be 11 a.m. to midnight Mondays through Saturdays, noon to 11 p.m. Sundays.
