The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board has been having major glitches with the online SLO (or "special liquor order") system that its 17,000 licensees use, so it's taking the site down for two months for an upgrade, starting Monday (6/30).
This won't affect retail consumers who place their orders at stores or who use the Web site www.pawineandspirits.com, the LCB told Food & Drinq today.
Restaurateurs and liquor vendors who use the web system must place special liquor orders via fax, e-mail or in person at stores, the LCB said.
In a statement, CEO Joe Conti said the agency would transfer staff and resources in Harrisburg to handle the fax and e-mail orders and insisted that there should be no delay in filling these orders.
SLOs account for about 4 percent of the LCB's gross sales. A spokeswoman said that in a typical week, the LCB processes about 3,000 online SLO orders -- ranging from a single bottle to several cases of wine or spirits.

I'm a wine distributor in PA. I placed my orders this morning. It is now the end of business and the PLCB has STILL not issued Purchase Orders to me. Ridiculous! Perhaps all of us distributors should just stop shipping to Pennsylvania. How does the notion of a dry state strike your readers?
