Sonam is closed

Ben Byruch has pulled the plug on Sonam, his BYO yearling in the subterranean space at 223 South St.

He couldn't be reached directly, but an associate cites the South Street reconstruction project as not helping matters.

The spot previously housed The Table and Next.

Anthony:

Its the curse of the Opentable 1000 point reservation. Just look at how many places on that list close shortly after joining it. In the past 2 months Clementines and now Sonam have fallen victim. If they didn't have such a cash flow behind them, I would say Cuba Libre is next.

Anthony, unless you're kidding, I think you have cause and effect backwards. They're going to 1000 OpenTable points, which I'm sure means more money the restaurants owe OpenTable for booking the reservation, because they're struggling to fill their tables during the times when 1000 points are offered and hope that the 1000-point bounty will attract diners, even if at significant cost to the restaurant. I don't think that going to 1000 OpenTable points is what hurt the restaurants in the first place.

I was kidding. I am a little scared to see Supper on there though for the reasons you mentioned, good reviews and food should full there tables.
