In his last official act as president of AFSCME Local 47, Tom Cronin blasted Mayor Street for not contributing more in the last two years to his union's health fund. Standing outisde a union hall while Local 47 delegates selected a new president, Cronin said Street had promised him a 14 percent increase in health payments in fiscal years 2007 & 2008. So far, that hasn't happened, and Cronin is steamed.
"I think if he has any shred of decency or integrity left he'll pay the folks of District Council 47 what he owes them," Cronin said of Street. "The mayor knows that I'm leaving office tonight. he really kind of betrayed us, betrayed the membership of ASCME district council 47. It saddens me to have to leave in this way."
Street spokesman Joe Grace said the mayor had to balance the needs of the city's taxpayers with those of the city's workforce. Grace repeatedly stressed Street's respect for the departing Cronin, and pretty much refused to take the bait.
The DC 47 election results weren't available by the time Heard in the Hall called it a day, look for more info in the a.m.
