Philadelphia, November 28, 2007 – Today Mayor-elect Michael Nutter announced the co-chairs for his transition team. This committee will work to prepare for the Nutter Administration in January 2008.

“I am very excited about the extraordinary talent and diverse experience of the individuals who have agreed to serve on my Transition Team. These people have stepped forward to serve their city and will be helping us prepare as we build towards the beginning of my administration in January,” said Nutter.

Honorary Chairman, Reverend Albert F. Campbell of Mount Carmel Baptist Church is joined by Committee co-chairs:

· The Honorable Ida Chen, Court of Common Pleas for the Philadelphia Judicial District;

· Daniel K. Fitzpatrick, recently named to direct Citizens Bank’s operations for Pennsylvania; Dr. Amy Gutmann, President, University of Pennsylvania;

· Bishop Richard Norris Ph. D., First District AME Church, Philadelphia;

· Lynette Brown-Sow, Vice President, Communications and Government Relations, Community College of Philadelphia;

· Nilda Ruiz, President and CEO, Asociación Puertorriqueños en Marcha

Tricia Enright, Nutter’s former general election campaign manager will serve as the Executive Director of the Committee and Richard Hayden, a lawyer with the firm Saul Ewing, was named Counsel to the Committee.

The transition team will include an Operations Team that will review the City’s operating departments and also evaluate successful ‘Best Practices’ programs from other city governments. Nutter also wants the team to determine if there is an effective customer service model in place for each city department.

“I want to be certain that we are doing everything possible to make government services accessible to the taxpayer,” said Nutter. “A customer service program for each department is a good start.”

In addition to reviewing the City departments, sub-committees of the Operations Team will also review key personnel matters. “The response to my ‘call to service’ has exceeded my expectations, with almost 3000 resumes received so far,” said Nutter. “Our prior transition staff will conduct a thorough review of the resumes and job openings to ensure that we have the best people for the positions that we have available.”

Nutter also announced that New Way Policy Teams will be established to explore new and creative ideas on the day-to-day operations of City government. Topics for this team will include some of the ideas that Nutter referenced in his policy papers during his election campaign, including how to align specific policy goals in a variety of areas with foundations willing to invest dollars to improve the conditions in the City. The New Way Policy Teams will also generate new innovative ideas on public safety, education, health care delivery and more.

Nutter said the New Way Policy Teams will remain in place through the beginning of his administration to provide ongoing ideas and guidance.
