Cable access in Philly, finally

Heard In The Hall, an Inquirer blog, says today that the city along with Comcast Corp. (NASDAQ:CMCSA) is finally creating a new cable access system. It will be run by an entity called Philadelphia Public Access Corp. and will be available to Comcast customers. It's been several years in the making. One of its champions has been Gretjen Clausing. Some people think public-access TV has huge untapped potential as a promotional vehicle for small businesses. Then again, there's public-access entrepreneurs like Ugly George in NYC, who gained fame in the early 80's by convincing women to bare their breasts on Manhattan public access TV (now run by Manhattan Neighborhood Network. Stay, uh, tuned.

Well, only 35 years after NYC, Philly finally joins the cableTV revolution ("the Revolution WILL be televised on cableTV..."). Ben Franklin dug this in 1732; let's see if you do: Cable existed in many burgs in 1974, but ONLY NYC demanded Public Access FREE FROM CENSORSHIP! Ugly George wasn't the first to run naked women--but definitely was the BEST. (Even your ex-Governor,Milt Schaap, tried to run me in Pa. circa 1979; but Pa. wasn't ready then). Picking up (beautiful) straight girls is a lot different than running 'hard' pornstars, as Milt noted. After I had taken NYC cable from 80,000 subscribers to some 600,000 I was kicked off for good. But I will soon have the proverbial last laff, as technology is now permitting me to project Video on 28-ft. multiplex screens i.e., a movie. Thus "Fahrenheit911 & Ugly George" is in the works; script by Pa. natives Ed McMahon, WC Fields, Jeanette Macdonald and Ben F. Clever folks will guess the website...
