Lines of the Day

Since I haven't posted for a few days, let's give a local Line of the Day and a national one:

First, one for La Salle's Darnell Harris, who did this in the Explorers' 84-61 win over St. Bonaventure:

Second, one for stud Kansas State freshman Michael Beasley. He did this in the Wildcats' 84-75 win over no-longer-undefeated Kansas, producing one of the biggest court-stormings I've ever seen:

Mike:

No mention of the major slump and another disappointing and subpar performance by Nova...

They are playing themselves out of the NCAAs.

The SJU game might make or break the season.

Jay Wright should spend more time fixing his team than shopping for suits and fixin' his hair.

Jonathan Tannenwald [TypeKey Profile Page]:

Yeah, I know...

I'm working a 6 a.m. shift all week this week, so I haven't been able to think too much about Villanova. But I will be at the game Saturday and will write about the Wildcats then.

Josh:

Saw parts of the game. Nova looked uninspired in the second half.

Is there a chance that no big five team will make the NCAAS?

Wow. What a bad year for local ball.

Todd:

Welcome back!

6am shift? Wow...

Youre a glutton for punishment!

big5fan:

Will there be a Holy War preview coming any time soon?

you should poll all the college hoops writers on the papers and get some predictions (maybe on more than just scores)

Jonathan Tannenwald [TypeKey Profile Page]:

There will be... but I have to get through four games this weekend first!

Chuck:

Please also preview the beers on tap at the New Deck Tavern.

A quote or two from one of the Penn assistants would be great. They seem to spend plenty of time there.

Jonathan Tannenwald is a producer with Philly.com.

I fell in love with the Big 5 at first sight upon moving to Philadelphia in 2002. At various points in my journalistic career, I've covered all six of the region's Division I teams. During that time, I've eaten many soft pretzels from the Palestra's concession stands, which is how this blog got its name.

In addition to the blog, I host and produce the Inquirer's College HoopsCast. It's a weekly podcast that features all the latest news and analysis from around local and national college basketball. Regular guests include Inquirer writers Mike Jensen, Joe Juliano and Mel Greenberg.

I also occasionally contribute to the Inquirer's women's basketball weblog, Women's Hoops Guru. If you've come here from there, this blog deals mostly with the men's side of things, though I do write about women's basketball and other sports when they fit in.

When not focusing on college hoops, I host and produce the Inquirer's PhilliesCast with Phillies beat writer Todd Zolecki, and can occasionally be found behind the camera shooting videos of the Eagles, other professional sports teams and the tiger cubs at the zoo.

One of the great things about City Series basketball, and college basketball as a whole, is its sense of community. So I want to hear from you. Post a comment or send me an email by clicking on my name above. But don't be profane, and don't post hate speech. I'm sure you'd like to take a shot at that commenter on the opposite side of a rivalry from you, or say something nasty about a team you don't like. But this blog isn't the place for it. Thanks.
