Lazar, not Lazarus

That noise you just heard somewhere along the Schuylkill Expressway was Villanova's momentum crashing to a halt.

I was starting to think about resurrection analogies at halftime, but then Lazar Hayward and Marquette turned a seven-point Villanova lead into a 10-point Golden Eagles win.

Joe and I will have plenty to say about the game on tomorrow's College HoopsCast (yes, we pushed it to Tuesday again), but in the mean time, did you ever think the Wildcats still had a shot at the NCAA Tournament?

Just a point that I think Tom Crean does a dynamite job with the Marquette program.

His teams are often well-prepared to play more so than most others.

Terrific job tonight with a comeback and a very easy and safe landing once Nova reverted to earlier habits.

Sure Villanova still has a shot at the NCAA tournament. They have FOUR top 50 wins which is more than just about any other "bubble team"...

I agree with the earlier post that Marquette was great last night -- and Crean does an outstanding job. He was making me dizzy with all that pacing, though!

Two huge games in three days has to be tough for the Wildcats. They have a shot at Louisville in 6 days and some time to rest up in between... They still have a lot to prove and I believe in them. GO CATS!

Nova has the following remaining until Selection Sunday:Louisville on the road, USF at home, Providence on the road, and up to four games in the Big East Tournament. My opinion .... if they only win 2 or less games the rest of the year, then NIT, if they win 3, then on the Bubble, if they win 4 or more, then they'll get in.

I fell in love with the Big 5 at first sight upon moving to Philadelphia in 2002. At various points in my journalistic career, I've covered all six of the region's Division I teams. During that time, I've eaten many soft pretzels from the Palestra's concession stands, which is how this blog got its name.

In addition to the blog, I host and produce the Inquirer's College HoopsCast. It's a weekly podcast that features all the latest news and analysis from around local and national college basketball. Regular guests include Inquirer writers Mike Jensen, Joe Juliano and Mel Greenberg.

I also occasionally contribute to the Inquirer's women's basketball weblog, Women's Hoops Guru. If you've come here from there, this blog deals mostly with the men's side of things, though I do write about women's basketball and other sports when they fit in.

When not focusing on college hoops, I host and produce the Inquirer's PhilliesCast with Phillies beat writer Todd Zolecki, and can occasionally be found behind the camera shooting videos of the Eagles, other professional sports teams and the tiger cubs at the zoo.

One of the great things about City Series basketball, and college basketball as a whole, is its sense of community. So I want to hear from you. Post a comment or send me an email by clicking on my name above. But don't be profane, and don't post hate speech. I'm sure you'd like to take a shot at that commenter on the opposite side of a rivalry from you, or say something nasty about a team you don't like. But this blog isn't the place for it. Thanks.
