As Philly is my home base, and I often fly to Charlotte or Chicago, I can agree with the report that Philadelphia was just ahead of them. It truly felt that way.
Getting stuck at O'Hare is an unwelcome rite of passage that sometimes happens too often. Unfortunately, for USAirways fliers, the gate areas and concourses there are cramped and completely unfriendly.
It is unfair to compare USAirways on-time performance with Southwest. As a percentage of their flights, USAirways flies more often to areas impacted by the same weather in Philadelphia. Southwest doesn't fly to Williamsport or Syracuse or Salisbury. 19 direct destinations out of PHL versus a host of others, including many Northeastern US sites for USAirways.
The comparisons can be misleading.
