Since returning to Philadelphia in 1993, I have witnessed four episodes of complete neighborhood nuttiness that defies explanation, and one of them is the ridiculous way that a tiny and whiny minority of residents in Delaware County is holding the rest of the region hostage over flightpaths and expansion at PHL. Every time I miss seeing my family for hours because I am delayed taking off for or circling overhead of PHL I blame the DelCo residents and Joe Sestak. Unless they want to offer some DelCo land to build another airport, our economic future is staked to PHL. It is ironic that so many DelCo residents work for the airport and yet allow a small number of neighbors to strangle it.

I agree Mark. I really don't have any sympathy for the residents of Delco or the suddenly vocal and pandering Rep. Joe Sestak. When you buy real estate close to an airport, you have to know that one of the risks is that airplanes are going to fly over your airspace. Just because they don't fly in a particular direction currently doesn't mean they aren't going to sometime in the future--it is a risk you take. Progress for our region should not be halted by a vocal few. The continued survival and improvement of PHL is a vital piece of our regional economy. "Not in my back yard today" may well mean a weakened regional economy tomorrow.
