Subject: Philly Road Warrior - Premium Air

Dear Mr. Belden:

I enjoy reading your "Philly Road Warrior" column, it's always interesting. On February 4th you wrote about business class seating, and were particularly complimentary as to British Airways' fully reclining business class seating. My experience with the British Airways fully reclining business class seating, admittedly a number of years ago shortly after it was introduced, was that while fully reclining with lots of leg room, it was NARROW. The BA 777 I was on, which on most airlines has max 2-3-2 abreast seating in business class, had 2-4-2 abreast seating albeit with fully reclining seats. I found the narrow width to be cramping and haven't flown on BA since. Lufthansa's business class seats may not go to a fully flat position, but they are close, and they are comfortably wide enough. On the last LH 747-400 I was on (same cabin width as a 777) the seating in business was still 2-3-2. My point is BA tossed in an extra column of seats that fully recline and hoped nobody would notice the width, I guess. Maybe they've changed since then, I hope so.
