Another air fare increase

Airlines settled on yet another increase in basic fares. In addition, American Airlines said it would match the $25 fee already imposed by other carriers for checking a second bag. American was the last holdout among big airlines in adding the fee as a way to cope with higher fuel costs. Read about the fare increase at this link.

Jeanette:

I did read that at least on American, the $25 fare increase is only for tickets purchased or travel on or after May 12, 2008. Since my family purchased our tickets before May 12, 2008, we should still be allowed to check 2 bags each for free (subject to their other weight and size restrictions, of course) for our trip over Memorial Day. Their website also states that car seats and strollers are free.
