It sounds like United is going out of their way to alienate their core customer: the business traveler.
Some of the other recent changes in the industry like charges for first and second bags really didn't affect too many business flyers who make a 1-2 day trip with a carry on.
Forcing a harried business person to spend extra time on the road when there are alternate options will cause people to exercise those options.
This isn't ten years ago; we all know how to use the internet to find options. Travel agents(remember them?) use to control the only search engine for travel. Now we all have a set of keys.
