Make the call

A colleague stuck her head in my office today and said she'd read my blog and decided to go ahead and get her mammogram.
Yes! I cheered her on. It's important. We all heard it last week from Robin Roberts. If there are any issues, early detection is key. And I certainly felt that way last December when I learned my breast cancer was at stage 0.
My colleague said she'd had the prescription for a year.
Anybody else waiting around? Stop now and make the appointment.
It could be lifesaving.

Thriving, not just surviving

I was glad to see Robin Roberts return to Good Morning America yesterday. She looked wonderful after being away for little more than a week following breast cancer surgery.

Not only did the surgery go well, but she's now doing reports and interviews about having breast cancer. She's come back with a new energy and a new mission.

And she's not unlike many women who've had breast cancer. The diagnosis and treatment are not a death sentence and no longer mean you can't work or do other things.

Is it hard? Yes.

But I know for me it was worth it for me. I liked being surrounded by family, friends and co-workers when I was going through treatment. I drew from their strength and continue to do so.

And it seems to be worth it for Robin and many other women as well. You have to work it out with your doctors.
