More Mural Classes in Chadds Ford

There are more mural classes being held at St Cornelius' Church in Chadds Ford this summer with the Decorative Painters Apprenticeship Program.

Kim Senior will teach "Pope John Paul II, Imitation Stained Glass" Mural Class August 6 through 10th and "Landscape with Grazing Sheep" August 13 through 17th.

Students will participate in the painting of the mural, learn proper surface preparation, mixing of colors for the specific mural to match the sketch, and painting techniques particularly suited to the design. Kim will discuss project development, from sketch or maquette phase, to traditional and modern digital aids for transferring and enlarging the sketch to mural size. She will demonstrate some of the photoshop techinques she has used for the DPAP murals.

The murals will be painted on canvas, using artists acrylics mounted temporarily onto a wall. Once completed, they will be installed in the final location as a separate class.

Classes are aimed at the decorative painter who has experience in basic painting techniques such as glazes, additive/subtractive techniques, and would like to incorporate these painting skills into figurative murals. Focus will be put on colors and values creating the feeling of distance and expanse through aerial perspective. Some drawing ability will be required, but alternative methods of transfer will be shown that will accomplish this design in an efficient and visually effective way.

Elsa Wachs, Sandi Lovitz, Art Watch & Art Sisters News

Got an email from Elsa Wachs who was one of the ladies who went along on the Colorfield Remix trip. I discovered she has a website (it was in her signature line). Please check out her site. She does some wonderful work and is available for lectures and workshops.

Dont forget about Sandi Lovitz's reception at the Rosenfeld Gallery today.

Leaving for Art Watch on Tuesday. Driving from Green Bay with my friend Terry Stanley. . Planning to do some fish with polar bears. The event is in White Bear Lake, MN. So you would think that it would be a good idea.

Also, the Gryphon Cafe at 105 W. Lancaster Ave in Wayne, will be hosting a reception for the Art Sisters exhibit on Wednesday, July 12 from 7-9 pm.

The Paper Crane Project

crane2.jpg

I found out about the Paper Crane Project on another blog out there somewhere. Liz Shuman decided to give away 1000 origami paper cranes. In return, she asked for a picture of it in return.

Off to MN tomorrow. Be back next week.

Art Watch 2007

Back from Art Watch. Had a nice time and met some new artists and got reaquainted with some I have met before. Once again, the artists were treated very well.

Had plenty of time to complete my work. As you can see I chose the polar bear and ice fishermen designs. The public was allowed to come in and watch us paint during the three days. I was surprised at how many did not see the polar bear right away.

I decided to do a couple of Sappy Manga gals. The director of the art center ended up buying them. BTW, she has spikey pink hair.

Having fun with titling the images and links. Scroll over them to see what else I said about the event and the artists. Check their links -- Richard Graves, Nels Femrite, Shawn McCann, Mike Judy, and Terry Stanley

Susan Parsons

Got an email today from Susan Parsons, an artist friend from back in Green Bay.

I met her at the art store I used to work at and got to know her as a member of the Green Bay Art Colony.
Check out the links to the member artists.

New Work

Working on a different theme for my etsy shop.
Been doing these little girl paintings the past few days. They are on 5x7 gallery wrapped canvases. Planning to offer some as a set of prints. Have got a few more in the works. Hope to have them listed in the next day or two. Check back.

Also planning to donate a piece of art to the InLiquid benefit coming up in September. The deadline is next week. Boy, time really can creep up fast.

Illustration Friday

Decided I am going to participate in Illustration Friday It is a website where illustrators and artists are given a theme and then are suppose to post their work.

Last week was "Poem". This week's assignment is "Moon". Kris Hudson suggested the theme. Check back to see what I come up with.

Meanwhile we are working on the flooring to our garage attic -- beefing up the joists and laying down some plywood. It is quite warm up there -- so taking many breaks.

Etsy in the News

In case you came here first. A link to today's article on Philly.com

The Dorothy Heralds on YouTube

Shamelessly promoting my son's band,
the Dorothy Heralds. They performed on The Urban Theater in Madison, WI, a local cable show a few months ago.

They will be playing at The Fire at 412 West Girard Ave in Philadelphia on Sept 27th.

Illustration Friday - Moon

rabbit%20front%20edge%20for%20if.jpg

Here is my submission for Illustration Friday. The theme is Moon for this week.
I had been planning to do some simple images for my etsy shop. They have already been discussing Halloween on the forums. So figured it isnt too soon to start.

An article in the British tabloids about Janet Nelson (not me) the other day resulted in a HUGE jump in hits to my website Hopefully some of those hits will eventually result in sales.

Got my donation submission off to the InLiquid benefit. It will be held at the Crane Arts Building on 1400 N American. It is the same night, Sept 27th, my son's band, the Dorothy Heralds, is in town and they will be playing a few blocks away at The Fire. at 412 W. Girard. So it will be a busy night for us.

Pizzicato Chef Tasting

Pizzicato Ristorante on 3rd & Market is having a Chef Tasting event Wednesday night Aug 1. Cost is $35.

Got this "evite" sent today. I debated whether or not to post it. I wrote about the place back in February (Scroll down to the entry on the 5th) when I met Kim Senior

Obviously, someone in their marketing dept discovered that I had made mention of them. (BTW, Neff & Associates I am available for freelancing!)

Which then leads to this. I have seen it done before, but decided that I would offer to do artist interviews. I have to take a little time to thing about what questions to ask and get a list made up. But in the meantime, if you are a Philly area artist and would like to be interviewed, or know of an artist in the Philly area that would like to be interviewed, drop me a line in the comments or email me (click on my name in the profile box to the right). Please mention "interview" in the subject line.
