NYC cleaner than Philly?

First, let me begin by telling you that I work in University City. I saw the local news when Ray Nagin made the remarks concerning Philly. I'm not a big fan of his, however, he was right on the mark. From the Market Frankford El, including Suburban and Market East Stations, to the streets in Center City. I just don't get a warm comfortable feeling. I've worked in NYC, and it's so much brighter, cleaner, and has a much better police presence on the streets and mass transit system. And believe it or not, there aren't nearly as many panhandlers looking for some spare change in Manhattan. Philly is so much smaller, but it just seems that the Mayor and City Council here don't possess the pride in their city that is needed to clean Philadelphia up.

Rob:

NYC has much greater density than us - more residents - and tax dollars - per block, not to mention great wealth and commerce. Comparing Philly to NYC is a red herring.

I had lived in the city for 34 years. I grew up here. Later, I worked for sanitation and saw litter right in the face. Kids and parents alike throw their trash out the window of their cars or right on the ground. This epidemic seems to be mostly everywhere in the city. Whose job is it to clean the litter up? In Center City there is the CCD and other organizations like it in other areas. But who shall clean it up in the neighborhoods? I agree that the City is filthy, but first we need to prevent the trash from hitting the ground. About 6 months ago, I decided to leave the city workforce and to relocate about 2 hours away. It amazes me how terrible the city looks now when I come back. I don't know if I have become more sensitive to it or has it gone downhill in that short amount of time!

I email to webissues@phila.gov on 05/14/07.
Todate the playground is still dirty and this neighborhood is nothing but people in general doing nothing but trash in the outlets and on the street. They truely do not care what a shame for their children.

To the City of Philadelphia,

I would like something done about this play ground at Orleans and Jasper and Elkhart Street called Franklin It is so dirty and glass all over it that you cannot even walk through it without smelling all the dirty garabage. Please tell me the person or persons that I can contact to clean this up.

Thank you for all your help in advance!

Eric:

I also "split" time between NY and Philly and its getting to the point where i dread going to Philly. The garbage is everywhere where i am (Frankford Ave) and the only police you ever see are driving. No presence whatsoever. In NY the police walk by, say hello several times a day, either on foot or horseback. Thats what we need.
