Quality of life struggle #1 trash day in Fairmount is every friday. Trash pickers are out in force on Thursday night ripping bags open. #2 renters put out trash whenever they feel like it. #3 9th Dist. Police are too busy patrolling center city than the neighborhoods -- thus the trash. I own my home and clean my street. We need help from the police and streets dept..This city government ONLY gets off it's arse when it's election time. Jim

Philadelphia needs to wake up! People are so quick to get offended when the truth is spoken about this city. Besides the lack of job opportunity, the high murder rate, homelessness and ignorance that fills this city daily we have a problem with keeping Philadelphia beautiful. Most people that live in this city just don't care... Maybe there should be fines issued. We have tons of people sitting in jail or on probation in this city. What about a program related to that to make it mandatory to clean? Get the graffiti off the walls, scrub the ground and pick up trash. How embarrassed would they be? Think about it. The city gives out parking tickets like crazy so have a Trash Authority. The community needs to get involved. Take back your neighborhoods. Stop being scared! Use the goverment and programs we do have to your benefit...Look at the Northeast now, what used to be a safe, pretty neighborhood where you could walk to the corner family owned store and get free candy from the owner now has become a scary journey, passing local drug dealers, rude conversations and broken sidewalks... It is so sad how much I used to love this city and now wish I could move far from it.

I too can not understand who would be shocked that a visitor in our city would say that Philadelphia is dirty. You would have to be blind not to see just how dirty the city is. I want John Street to take a ride on the R8 regional train line from center city to Fox Chase and see the trash ever inch of his ride. Just at the Olney train station alone someone took it upon themselves to just dump what looks like a pick up truck full of trash. And those scenes continue for the entire ride. People are so ignorant. I can not tell you how much trash I have to pick in front of my house especially after trash day. Apparently the trash men are trained not to pick up anything that they drop between the curb and the trash truck.
I had a Christmas Tree on the curb down the street from me from January until the middle of April. I called CLIP (community life improvment program) 3 times until finally they came in April and took the tree.
This city is so disgusting. I have lived here for 46 years and it was not until New Orlean's mayor made his comments and our fine Mayor was insulted that it hit me that this city is a trash dump.

I love how you just had to take a dig at renters and tell everyone just how responsible they are...
Why not blame the people ripping the trash bags open?
Renters get out, don't you know that only land owners do things right?
