Last weekend, when I was reporting on the Philadelphia Distance Run, I walked around holding a banana peel and a plastic water bottle for twenty minutes before putting them down next to a pole, where sanitation workers would later picke them up.
For blocks along the route where people were standing, cheering for their friends and family, there were no trash cans. And nowhere at all could you toss plastic into a recycling bin.
Pity.

My sister, husband and I did the HeartWalk at
Citizens Park on Sunday and they had plenty of
water and fruit stands but no trash cans along
the walking room in the parking lot. All the
trash cans were at the stands so we did the same
thing as you and walked holding our empty water bottles and banana peels. Then we would find another stand and dump our trash. I guess the sanitation workers wanted us to work alittle harder to dump our trash too.
Its very interesting that it happened the same day at different events.

You couldn't find a container because recycling in Philadelphia is not a priority for the Mayor. There is far too much trash to pick up without worrying about recycling.
Residences have tried putting trash containers on street corners where people wait for buses only to be cited for having the trash can there! It isn't like we live in a city run by intelligent people only well connected ones!!
