So...

Again, its been a while for me on this blog. I wont make excuses for not posting, but I know I need to get back on the horse so to speak. Since the first week in May, which was the date of my previous post, much has happened. For instance, I finished this semester with A's and B's and one C+. Not too shabby, I dont think. People always look back at a semester or a test and say, "Wow, I really could have done a lot better." Not me. Yeah, I could have done a lot better, but I didn't. Period. For example, I could have avoided that C+ if I had gone to more classes, but I didn't, and thats on me. But anyway.

I started working full time for the agency I worked with part-time during the school year. Its a lot easier picking things up when you are there for full days instead of 3 or 5 hour spirts like just a few weeks ago. I feel like I can accomplish more or get projects done without worrying about being back to school or being somewhere at a certain time. Less anxiety I guess.

Michael Nutter. Enough said. If you live in this general area, you'll have had plenty of this news stuffed down your throat, or in your windshield wipers, to last you a lifetime.

Mumia Abu-Jamal. I work around 5th and Market Street, and was witness to the peaceful demonstration to gival Abu-Jamal another trial. It was a bit awkward to be honest. Also, it angered me just a little bit, especially the people trying to shove papers into your hands, preaching the ills of capitalism and how America sucks. Here's what I have to say on that front: If you hate America or what it stands for, then leave. Go to Canada. I wont miss you. About Jamal-- Here is a guy who supposedly shot Daniel Faulkner. Five witnesses said that they saw, with their own eyes, Abu-Jamal shoot and kill Faulker. Yes, I understand that those five witnesses might have been coerced into their testimony. It happens everywhere. Prosecutors offer immunity if you narc. Then there was the accused judge and the biased selection of the jury by the prosecutors. Again, this wont be the first nor the last time this happens. Here's my point-- five people said he did it (which is up for debate I guess), yet he is NOT on death row. And it appears that he wont be headed there any time soon. He is getting three squares a day, and a place to sleep at night, thanks to the many tax-paying Philadelphians who work hard for their money. That is A LOT better than thousands of city residents are getting nowadays. He and his supporters should be at least thankful of that fact. And, to be completely honest, this country has bigger problems than worrying about this guy (i.e. the War?). I dont want to come off as a jerk and I realize that there is a possibility that this guy is completely innocent, but like I said, he's getting fed, and has a roof over his head. Let the justice system work itself out, he'll get a new trial and hopefully a fairer shake this time around.

Phew. The first summer session begins tomorrow. I will work from 7:30-4:00, then class from 4:30-7:30. I'm taking Accounting 2. I'm not too excited to be honest. But I gotta do what I gotta do.

Today, I need to get some groceries and do my laundry. Entourage is on at 10. Watch it.

A Rainy Day

The Phils are 3-8. The Sixers have officially been eliminated from the playoffs. And the Flyers finished the season with their worst record in team history I believe. Not to mention we're gettin ready for a nice little storm here in the Philadelphia region. Don Imus. Rutgers Womens Basketball. NJ Governor Corzine. What a few weeks its been.

The reason I havent posted as much as I should, or as much as I'd like to, is that I'm now working part time with the Department of the Navy on top of my full class schedule. I'm really not home very much at all anymore, other than to sleep. I'm at either work, class, or the Tech Center doing work. Only three more weeks until this semester is over, and a few weeks after that the first summer session begins and I'll be going full time immediately.

Bored today? Watch some youtube videos of Stewie (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=best+of+stewie) or head down to the Art Museum at a discounted rate (pay what you want).

Phillies

Let me put it simply-- it's gonna be a long season for us Phillies fans. The bullpen, mainly in the form of Ryan Madsen and Flash Gordon, have coughed up two otherwise excellent pitching performances from Brett Myers and young Southpaw Cole Hamels. And as we speak, (well, as I write) the Fightin' Phils are trying to give away another game. As my dad just texted me, "Howard K's again with ducks on the pond." This comes after he duffs a ball that cost the Phils 2 runs.

I dont want to rant and rave early here in the season, but sweet fancy moses, we do this every year. Suck it up during April and then have to play lights out to make the playoffs, which obviously we dont do at the end.

Tonight, I'm heading to service downtown for Good Friday (yes, a day early). I will post again when I return from dial-up country a.k.a home. Have a good weekend.

1. The mens NCAA tournament only has one game left, a rematch of the football championship, Florida vs. Ohio State

2. Opening day is tonight.

3. The Phillies still havent figured out their bullpen problems.

4. Anna Nicole Smith. Enough said.

5. Dick Vitale has almost had a coronary about 17 times.

6. The number of murders in Philadelphia has already reached 101.

7. Boston Red Sox fans are still the most unknowledgable baseball fans I've ever met.

And I'm not talkin about just the basketball, this weather is ridiculous. But, back to basketball--- my boys lost. To Winthrop. I'm not even surprised, just kinda upset that the game coulda been won if ND had made a few more free throws.

Tonight, 'Nova vs. Kentucky. I promise there is nothing better to do tonight, so sit back and watch two solid teams duke it out (get it? Duke.... out, yessss). It will be interesting to see what Jay Wright has in store for Kentucky's big man, Randolph Morris. Furthermore, there has been a lot of speculation about Coach Tubby Smith's future at Kentucky, and a loss tonight might just open the door for a new coach next year at Kentucky.

Correction

In my earlier post, I had written that only one local team was dancing, but overlooked the small fact that the Ivy-leaguers from Penn are goin' dancin'-- running into the buzzsaw also known as Acie Law IV. Honestly, I dont know which of the last two match ups Penn has drawn in the Big Dance is worse---last year they faced the Kevin Durant-less yet very powerful Texas Longhorns, and this year they are slated for a match up with one of the most clutch (c'mon, tell me you've watched some of his clashes with Texas and Texas Tech) scorers in the Big 12, the aforementioned Mr. Law IV.

Speaking of the Longhorns, Kansas beat them twice this year. Twice.

Little Bit of Everything

There isnt really a point to this entry, instead it will be a random collection of thoughts about the Big Dance.

First, March Madness is here. Best time of the year. Hands down. Locally, only Villanova is dancing, and in all honesty, if they are dancing, 'Cuse should be too (like everyone is saying, if you go 10-6 in a power conference and dont dance, thats pretty absurd--although 'Cuse didnt leave its home floor for its first like 14 games). Alas I'm not on the selection committe, therefore what I think doesnt mean squat.

Drexel thought they had an arguement to go dancing, however, they did not merit an at large bid (mostly because they couldnt seal the deal against the top three teams in the CAA). They followed their griping about lack of a bid by losing to Egin Astur and NC State at home last night. Pity, I almost feel bad. If Drexel had gone deep in the NIT, maybe the selection committee would have seen then made an awful mistake in denying the Dragons a trip to the Big Dance, but after the performance last night, it looks like the committee made a good decision in omitting Bruser Flint's boys from their tournament.

On another note, my Irish drew a bad seed and a match up with "Cinderella material" Winthrop. If you dont know much about Winthrop, you should at least know that these guys from South Carolina can play ball with the best of them. Look out for Torrell Martin, leading scorer for the Eagles, who is a 6'5" senior guard that can create match up problems for just about anyone. Look for Russell Carter, Colin Falls and Tory Jackson of ND to each try to guard him on the perimiter. Martin might create problems if he gets inside for Tory Jackson, who is only 5'11". My prediction: ND 74, Winthrop 68 (oh c'mon, you knew this was coming)

I have a few other thoughts on the tournament, and they are as such:

Duke's string of trips to the Sweet 16 might come to a streaking halt when Eric Maynor and Virginia Commonwealth come a knockin later this week. Memphis is the hottest team in the country right now, but they havent played a tournament caliber team in ages, so their streak doesnt mean much. The trendy pick of G'town to win it all is hard to ignore, with Jeff Green and Roy Hibbert really playing some outstanding basketball as of late.

Three Big 12 teams have a good shot of goin deep in the tourney: Texas, Texas A&M, and Kansas. The Big 12 Championship game was just like all the epic clashes we have seen this year between these three powers. North Carolina's Tyler Hansborough is wearing a mask to protect his recently broken nose. People are saying that it will affect how he plays and for that reason the Tar Heels wont live up to potential. BULL. That kid is a competitor. A piece of plastic will not stop him from doing what he does. If necessary, "Crazy T" will play without that mask if it means his team wins ball games. Period.

Washington State and Oregon, two Pac-10 teams, are not getting much love from analysts since Selection Sunday, but I'll give em some. Dont discount either of these two squads. WSU drew a 3 seed, as did Oregon. Oregon is red hot, and if they can get past Wisconsin, I think they can take down mighty might Flordia.

With much hesitation (their recent trend of losses in the Big Dance make me skeptical), I give you the 2007 NCAA National Champions: Kansas Jayhawks.

Spring "Break"

So, after all my aforementioned exams, I finally was able to come home and relax. Well, kinda. I drove home, was home for less than an hour before I went straight to work. Came home, went to bed, woke up early, and back to work. Today, however, I was able to sleep in and relax before starting another full work week, and then I'll be back to school. No rest for the weary, I reckon.

I really havent done much yet today, took my little sister shopping for some new running shoes before going to see some of my family (great grandma and grandma and aunt Joyce). I watched a few minutes of the Duke/UNC game, some of the Phils/Yanks, and now the Sixers are on. I dont really plan to do too much tonight, unless one of my boys has something planned that I have yet to find out about (which is entirely possible considering how late we throw things together sometimes).

I just found out that Temple has drawn St. Joes in the first round of the A-10 tourney. That could get ugly and fast, considering how we just lost to Fordham of all teams. As long as St. Joes doesnt win the A-10 and go to the Big Dance, I'm happy with that.
