Almanac, Aug. 9

This was the hottest day during a blistering six-day heat wave in 2001. On this date, the temperature reached a record 101 in Philadelphia.

On successive days from Aug. 7 through 10, the highs were 99, 100, 101 and 98.

The temperature has yet reach those levels this year. Yesterday's 97 was the highest reading of the summer of 2007.
