Almanac, Oct. 29

The temperature at 6 a.m. was right at freezing in Pottstown and Quakertown and a chilly 39 at Philadelphia International Airport.

That official Philadelphia reading still was well above the record for the date, 30, set in 1965.

This will be one of the few days this month in which the average temperature will end up below normal, but this month remains on target to become the warmest October in Philadelphia in the period of record, which dates to 1874.
