Almanac, Oct. 30

Foreshadowing one of the region’s colder winters on record, on this date in 1962 the temperature fell to 27 at Philadelphia International Airport, a record for the date.

In all the temperature dropped into the 20s on five days during the nine-day period that began on Oct. 30, bottoming out at 20 on Nov. 7.

While the subsequent winter was particularly snowy, it was memorably cold. The temperature fell below zero twice in Philadelphia, and into the single digits several times.
