Almanac, Oct. 31

A trace of rain was recorded at Philadelphia International Airport on this date in 1963 on the last day of an amazingly dry October.

On Oct. 3, 0.09 inches fell at the airport, and that was the only measurable rain of the month. October 1963 thus tied October 1924 for the driest month ever in Philadelphia.

In 1963, the rains came back, quickly. On Nov. 1, 0.70 inches was recorded, and over 3.5 inches more fell from the 5th to the 8th.
