For the Record

On this date in 1971, the high temperature in Philadelphia reached 66, and so ended the warmest October on record.

At midnight, however, October 1971 will have to relinquish that crown. Barring a “Day After Tomorrow” style deep freeze, October 2007 will become the warmest in the period of record, dating to the 19th Century.

The average temperature in October ’71 was 63.5; this one will be warmer by about a degree.
