Almanac, Nov. 13

So far, November temperatures in Philadelphia are averaging better than 3 degrees below normal, and December-like chill is due this weekend.

As noted below (see Almanac, Nov. 12) November weather can foreshadow that of the subsequent winter, but that isn’t always the case.

For example, on this date in 1996, the official temperature at the airport dipped to 24, and November readings overall were below normal.

The winter, however, was nothing exceptional. February turned out to be quite mild, and for the season snowfall was only 12.4 inches, about 60 percent of average.
