In what turned out to be the high-water mark of a very wet November, 3.99 inches of rain fell officially in Philadelphia on this date in 1977, a record for a Nov. 7.
In the three-day period from Nov. 6 to 8, 4.4 inches was measured at the airport, and measurable rain fell on every one of the last 10 days of the month.
Although the temperature did not get below freezing that season until Nov. 12, the November wetness foreshadowed a cold and stormy winter that became one of the snowiest on record in Philadelphia and throughout the Northeast.
