Almanac, Dec. 3

Snow began on the night of Dec. 3, 1957, and by daybreak a sloppy, slushy coating was on the ground with the forecast calling for a changeover to rain.

The changeover never occurred, however, as a storm unexpectedly intensified off the coast.

The snow turned heavy and continued into the night. By the time it stopped, 7 inches had fallen at Philadelphia International Airport.
