As advertised, the wind is howling out there, with gusts up to 55 m.p.h. reported at Cape May, 51 m.p.h. in Wilmington and 48 at Philadelphia International Airport. All those readings came in at 3 p.m.
PECO Energy says that the winds caused a total of about 30,000 customers to lose power; however, most of those outages were short-lived, and only 3,000 are still waiting for their electricity to be restored.
Also, at least a few traffic problems have been reported as a result of downed trees and limbs.
The winds are the backlash from the weekend storm that left a touch of snow and ice in the region. It has since bombed out over the North Atlantic. Winds circulate counterclockwise around storms, so we’re getting gusts from the northwest.
A wind advisory remains in effect until 1 a.m.
Here is the latest National Weather Service wind summary.
