Phillies Bite the Big Apple

Everybody saw that coming, right?

The Phillies swept the Braves in Atlanta on May 25-27 to get everybody excited before a seven-game homestand at Citizens Bank Park ... only to go 2-5 against the Diamondbacks and Giants. So then, naturally, the struggling Phillies go into the lion's den this week to face the Mets at Shea Stadium ... and sweep the Mets.

Huh?

This team continues to baffle and amaze.

I think this video puts it best for Phillies fans:

A series recap:
- Chase Utley hits a solo homer in the 11th inning in Tuesday's 4-2 victory.
- Jimmy Rollins hits a three-run homer in the seventh inning in Wednesday's 4-2 victory.
- Pat Burrell hits a solo homer in the ninth inning off nemesis Billy Wagner to tie the game in last night's 6-3 victory in 10 innings.
- Antonio Alfonseca saves all three games.
- Jamie Moyer, Adam Eaton and Cole Hamels each pitch well.
- The Phillies bullpen throws nine shutout innings.

So now the Phillies just have take care of business against the lowly Kansas City Royals.

Here's something to put everybody in the mood for Kansas City. How come I get the feeling I might meet these guys this weekend? Good Lord.

The Royals are a pretty bad team, so this pretty much is the only Royals highlight I could find.

This might even be better - This is Royals outfield Joey Gathwright jumping over a car:

John in LA:

Pat the Bat, I take back everything bad I ever said about you. Antonio ""Fantastic 24" Alfonseca, I love you!

Todd: You meet those guys, you should be afraid...very afraid. Your blog is the best, you are a sick dude.

John In LA...I'm still laughing, you have Phillies fever, take two aspirin and see your doctor..this too shall pass. I felt the same way last night, my daughter loves to call me whenever he does something good and says she is buying his shirt, cause she knows how nuts he makes me.

Junior Mach:

Good sweep by the Phils, but I couldn't believe what Wagner said after last night's game about Pat's homerun: "He has a one-path swing, and I put it in his path." What a jerk. This is the same guy who said a few weeks ago, when the Mets all shaved their heads, something to the effect of, "My head looks stupid, but I'm still rich." Go back to school, Billy; you need more class.

Surprised you didn't post anything about this, Zo. I'm interested in hearing your thoughts about Wagner, and his continued dishes on the Phillies, and his arrogance.

Long-time reader, first-time poster. Keep up the good work.
